I'm so happy that Chrome for linux is finally in beta! I love it so much! I been using it for linux ever since there was plugin support as my default browser!
Google Chrome for Mac supports version 10.5 and later. This won't change after Beta. We depend on later versions of the OS for some things like the security sandbox.
Hi, I noted that Chrome for Mac is only supported for OS X 10.5 and higher. I'm running 10.5.8, but when I downloaded and attempted to launch the App was told "This architecture is not supported."
I assume that means G5 PowerPC is not supported? Will that change in future releases, or are you committed only to the Intel platform going forward?
that REALLY sucks that people with powerpc/10.4 have to buy a new computer in order to use chrome. especially after getting that email telling me there was FINALLY a mac version out and didn't even mention as much. shucks.
Congratulations to the Google team. I will still be sticking to the DEV branch as it is still pretty stable. I would like if they work on content policy and more extension communication as such real ad-block support and script blocking extension can be added. It is probably taboo, but I thought it is something I could throw out there.
Congratulations, but Mac is beta and still no bookmark manager? Disappointing.
Also, the lack of extensions in the Mac beta make it unusable for me, really. I look forward to a dev version with extensions re-enabled, to block ads and Flash.
I been using the newly release windows beta an the extensions are all working fine. I have notice that loading web pages seem slower on this version of windows chrome.
I hope they speed up the browser in a future release.
When installing this way, I use the flash. 64-bit Ubuntu 9.10
Flash Player 10 for 64-bit Linux http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/64bit.html
Linux Download the plugin to begin installation. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file. Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely. Quit your browser. Remove all existing Adobe Flash Player installations from the system. Unpackage the file. A directory with contains libflashplayer.so will be created. Copy libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins. Create the 'plugins' folder if it does not exist yet. Launch your brower.
If you're a common computer = gksu nautilus-> libflashplayer.so copy -> /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
Any plan to add a master password for chrome? I don't think that's so hard to write the code for that. It would also be cool to have the possibility of automatically removing history after "x" days. I think these are just two big security holes for chrome.
I do like the interface and new tab. But where can we report bug for the Mac version? Because importing bookmarks etc form Firefox 3.5.5 doesn't work via menu 'import bookmarks and ...'. Chrome crashes. Mac OS 10.6.2.
The Mac version is vastly undercooked. How are we supposed to use a browser without so much as a bookmark manager? Also, having the same version # between Windows, Linux and Mac, but with a different feature set is misleading. This is not what I have come to expect from Google. The Mac version is soo not ready for beta.
Very happy to see Google Chrome update its status to Beta. I'm on Fedora 12, and love, love, love Chrome.
I have never had a use for the word "Giddy", but that's how I felt as I browsed and installed Chrome Extensions. I just sorta hopped up-n-down in my chair, made a big smile, and waved my hands around like a schoolgirl that just received her first Barbie for Christmas.
Keep up the good work!
P.S. I'm using the 'unstable' version, which is NOT unstable at all. Will I cease to receive the updates that the beta version would be getting?
I'll be downloading it, to test it out on a Mac. See how it handles the day to day activity of browsing, blogging, updating favourites and its redendering of different sites. Congrats Google. I'm still a Safari fan for now.
Sucks that with all the resource power and money Google has, they still can't come out with a decent browser for mac. I'll stick with camino and safari. Also don't understand why no powerpc version? There are more mac powerpc users out there than linux users and they get Chrome?!
After a long time of not using Chrome, I downloaded the most recent dev-version and tried out a few Extensions. And I'm pretty impressed with your work. Good job!
But what I still miss is autosaving surf-sessions. So when I close Chrome and restart it, I want it to open my last opened tabs. Is this planned in the future?
@operator: look in the option. is there ;) @Ray: they are giving priority to linux because chrome OS is based on linux kernel and they want to move on there. they are doing a great job on mac too but the job there has a less priority. nobody is forcing you to use chrome, if you don't like it you use safari. @Helio: to report bugs go there: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/entry before filing a new bug make sure there is not already a duplicate.
It is disappointing that Google has chosen to make Chrome relevant only for "new" Mac users. With all the brain power encompassed in the Googleplex, they should be able to find a way to include everyone who has been anticipating the new browser. After all, the company mission is to make the world's information "universally accessible and useful." Seems they missed the mark with this one.
I have just installed chrome on my macbook pro but after it automatically transferred the bookmark folders from my safari browser I can't seem to open new bookmark folders on chrome.
Any ideas as to whether it's me or teething problems with the new beta download?
This was much more stable to me with the Mac development channel builds prior to this beta. Now something on many popular sites (reddit, etc) lock up chrome right away for me, since applying this update. :/
I noticed a minor problem today. When right-clicking a link to Save As... a Quicktime file, the .mov extension does not appear in the name field of the Save As... dialog.
In response to my earlier problems, I resolved them by completely removing the files in /Library and ~/Library for safari (along with the flash plugin both) from my mac, and reinstalling Safari. Now the new Chrome beta is nice and stable (Yes, something in my Safari configuraiton seemed to be crashing Chrome+flash). I love the browser, thanks guys :)
I am using this version of Chrome, and when I go to install an extension, the browser downloads it, and then windows asks me which program to use to open the .CRX file. Is there something that I have to do to be able to install these extensions and make them work?
Regarding speed comparisons with Firefox, I did my own test and found that Chrome Beta is noticeably slower. It may be extensions that I have in Firefox that make it load pages faster, but at least for now, Chrome is my second choice
Vivek said: "...having the same version # between Windows, Linux and Mac, but with a different feature set is misleading."
I really wanted to post this again to both emphasize the point and to ask why this is. This, to me, is a huge problem. It makes it much harder to see where the Mac builds are relative to other development.
Can someone explain why versioning works in such an unintuitive manner?
i can't believe google won't create a version for powerpc. It's happened: google's become large, powerful, and now just a bunch a douchebags....and i actually envied their lazy office practices.
What a bummer. I own a G5 Dual 2GHZ Mac Tower myself and can't use Google Chrome due to it not supporting my architecture. Really sucks. They need to truly make it compatible for both Intel Macs and Power PC Macs. Making it for only Intel Macs is not only unacceptable, but it's an insult!!!!
Hello mate, I want to thank you for this nice blog. Would you mind telling me some secrets for a succesful blog ? Which could attract some visitors than it normally does. Please come visit my site Business Directory Chicago when you got time.

@Mark Larson (Google)—You noted that pre-10.5 MacOS won't be supported because "We depend on later versions of the OS for some things like the security sandbox."
Exactly what MacOS 10.4 exploit is Google concerned about? Or are you trying to say that the security sandbox is an innovation with 10.5?
Finally, why no PPC? You'll have to dance pretty fast to explain why Chrome won't be on the iPad, if your explanation is that the PPC architecture is somehow outdated.
I was so frustrated by the lack of compatibility! This INTEL only Mac thing sends a message. Although Linux-based stuff is an open source philosophy it doesn't seem to apply to Google chrome? I MUST have an Intel processor? I am standing here transfixed with confusion... Then I read the opinions from those who have the mac/Intel combo and have used Chrome.
It seems I am missing nothing!
Who navigates a browser without bookmarks?!
Try again! I want this program if it's doing what it's supposed to do!

Greeeeeat job guys!

Congrats for a job well done, team! :)
Thanks for this holiday gift!
It's such a joy to be part of the ride. :)
I'm just waiting for the Mac extensions and bookmark synching to be ready as front row features!
No adblock extension yet on the site ;) (I know Google will hate them anyways)
What version of Mac OS X is necessary? I'm running 10.4.11 and getting the following error:
You cannot use the application "Google Chrome" with this version of Mac OS X.
Is this an issue with the beta? Will the browser work with all versions of Mac OS X when beta is over?
Google Chrome for Mac supports version 10.5 and later. This won't change after Beta. We depend on later versions of the OS for some things like the security sandbox.
No adblock extension exactly, but there are a similar: AdSweep.
Disappointing...
Congrats and kudos to Chrome team.

Hey I'm currently using the mac beta version and I've only recently started and I just have one question.
In Windows (at least with the older builds of chrome) when it came to themes I would have a .dll package on the mac builds it's CRX only right?
I was wondering if something like the .dll packages is around for mac as the themes are much nicer then the CRX ones.
We are all proud of you Google!!!
g5 PPC here with 10.5.8 as well - get the "Architecture Not Supported" result as well.
Great news!
By the way, is there any way to automatically update my Linux Chrome to keep it up-to-date?
Is there a way to download an "offline" installer ?
I've tried adding &standalone=1 but it keeps downloading ChromeSetup_172_28.EXE
How does one install Flash on Linux/amd64?

> How does one install Flash on Linux/amd64?
I installed it via usual package manager on Ubuntu: aptitude install flash-plugin-installer
Thoroughly disappointed. Been waiting AGES for the mac version of chrome only to find that it's INTEL only.
Seriously pissed off. Back to Camino, then...
> By the way, is there any way to automatically update my Linux Chrome to keep it up-to-date?
I found the solution myself. Adding this line to /etc/apt/sources.list helped:
deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable main

I can't install this beta. I try to download it from http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?extra=betachannel but after all i get 3.0 version.
All us power PC users are left in the dark(ages)
First - Congrats on the release.....
I have installed the beta but have no sound... (MacBook Pro (2.33 GHz Intel Core Duo - OS X v. 10.6.2)

Hey, I've successfully installed extensions but when I restart Windows, the extensions are gone.
Flightaware graphics still don't work. Could you guys add flightaware.com to your regression suite? Thanks!
Great achievement. Unfortunately I already found a bug: proxy settings aren't loaded properly on OpenSuse 11.2.
How can I report it?

I like it but cant seem to find a way to manage the bookmarks in the Mac release. There is no "Wrench" as there is in the Window release.
How do I clean that up?

On Mac OS 10.6, I cannot find an AutoFill Tab
I'm on the dev channel, why aren't I updated to the beta version if it's more advanced ?
I have the same no sound issue, my sound now doesn't work at all.
