Last Friday there was a real buzz in the offices for our quarterly Sales Day 🏆 It was a fantastic day full of heightened activity, good-natured competition and teams working together to achieve their goals for the day and become our Sales Day winners. We even had some fun activities, including a 'sell me this pen' sales pitch competition. It was a great opportunity to strengthen our teamwork and enhance our sales skills. June is Pride Month and we want to use the opportunity to introduce and celebrate some pioneers in the life sciences, technology and engineering industries 🙌 1️⃣ Allan Hellman Allan was a Swedish engineer and founder of RFSL - ‘The rights of the Swedish National Association for homosexuals, bisexuals, transgender people and queer people’. He is considered the first man to openly admit his homosexulaity in Sweden. A posthumous award was created in his memory and is awarded to someone who has worked to increase sexual equality in society. 2️⃣ Ben Barres Ben Barres, a transgender neurobiologist known for research on glia cells and diversity in science. His work revealed glial cells' role in brain function and myelin production. Barres was the first openly transgender member of the US National Academy of Sciences, advocating for equality in science and mentorship for students and postdocs. 3️⃣ Lynn Conway Lynn Conway, a pioneer in supercomputers and microchip design, faced discrimination but revolutionised chip design globally. Her work at Xerox PARC and IBM led to innovations in chip design, including out-of-order instructions in supercomputers. Conway became a prominent advocate for the transgender community after coming out publicly in the early 2000s. #Pride2024 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

Get a glimpse into life at Thor! May was a busy month for Thor but also an incredibly successful one. Here are just some of the highlights from over the month! ✈️ Travel ✈️ Malin Rudolfsson Fransson, Matt Askew and Anita Trigila jetted off to Italy to represent Thor at client meetings 🇮🇹 🥂 Events 🥂 We kicked off the month with our first Park Games of the year where our London and New York offices enjoyed a few games of kickball in the sunshine. Our Client Partnership Team showed off their bowling skills at their team social celebrating an incredibly successful quarter! Learning at Work week saw our consultants take to the floor in daily 10-minute takeovers where they each presented on a different area of recruitment. Office Lottery made its return last month - our winner Patrick Begley secured himself some great prizes including a brand new PS5 with his winnings. We ended the month with an exciting Sales Day in our London and New York offices, it was a day packed with competition and heightened activity. 🌍 International 🌎 Conferences - Thor's team represented the company at conferences worldwide last month. Aidan Deery and Timmy Kerrigan attended #CleanPower24 🇺🇸 It's been an incredible month and we can't wait to see what June brings! 🌎 Highlight of the Week in the US Renewable Energy Sector 🌎 1️⃣ By 2030 Solar Energy Will Make Up 30% Of Electricity Generation ☀️ Solar power is on the rise in the US, with capacity having grown at 44% annually between 2009 and 2022. The Stampede Solar Project in Texas is a key example, using advanced technology to build a 326 MW solar plant 25% faster. This project will generate clean energy, create jobs, and benefit the local community, reflecting the bright future of solar power in the US. 2️⃣ US Energy Panel Approves Rule To Ease The Transmit Of Renewable Energy ⚡️ The US FERC approved a new rule to expand renewable energy transmission for eliminating carbon emissions by 2050. The rule aims to address challenges in the ageing power grid from increased demand and extreme weather.
