Today marks the start of #ArmedForcesWeek2024. This is an important opportunity to show our support for all those who make up the Armed Forces Community; from current serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets and their families.     JLR has a proud association with the Armed Forces community. We are honoured to celebrate the 10th anniversary of signing the Armed Forces Covenant and we have also held the Gold Award on the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) since 2015.      We have proudly employed more than 1500 veterans globally over the last decade at JLR, recognising the unique skills, experience, and dedication that service leavers can bring to our organisation.      Through regular engagement, volunteering and fundraising opportunities, JLR’s Armed Forces network remains an essential part of our connection to the wider Armed Forces Community past and present. Earlier this month we were delighted 35 of our colleagues had the opportunity to volunteer as chauffeurs during the recent D-Day 80 anniversary events in both Normandy and in the UK. #AFW24 #AFD24

Didi, born in Kerala southern India came to the UK with the intention to take a break and travel Europe whilst her husband worked on a short-term project but instead she now calls the UK home. Joining JLR in 2018 as Software Project Lead, Didi and the team “spent two years working on the New Defender EVA-2 Gateaway software, to make sure we got it right first time.” Didi acknowledges the industry is still male-dominated. With that being said, she is part of the change. The team are integrating software that automatically brings in your preferences, making the cars more personalised, helping both male and female owners. These changes are all working towards equality in the automotive industry, whether you’re working on or driving our cars. #JLRWomen #WomenInTech #Defender https://lnkd.in/eDeeeY5Q

This week is Men’s Health Awareness Week. A chance to remind the chaps out there to speak up and also encourage your peers to access the information, services and treatment they need to live healthier and happier lives. From mental to physical health, we can all do more to look after ourselves and so today, we’re highlighting four key things that you can do to look after your mind and body more. 1. Prostates: 1 in eight men get prostate cancer and despite sustained campaigns by health professionals, many men don’t know the signs of prostate cancer. Symptoms may include: - needing to urinate more frequently, often during the night - needing to rush to the toilet - difficulty in starting to pee (hesitancy) - straining or taking a long time while urinating - weak flow - feeling that your bladder has not fully emptied - blood in urine or blood in semen If you’re worried, book a PSA test with your doctor. 2. Mental Health: 115 people die by suicide in the UK every week, with 75% of those deaths being male. Make sure you: - Speak out. No issue is too big.  - At JLR, we offer mental health sessions for our employees, with access to treatment within two weeks. - If you don’t work for JLR, there are many services outside of the National Health Service that will help you find a path to a more positive mental state, including Mind and The Samaritans.   3. Exercise: Walking and Talking: JLR’s Walk and Talk offers a safe space to talk and get pointers on where to go to address their health concerns.   - Since launching the Walk and Talk programme at JLR, more than 5,000 colleagues have joined Walk and Talk sessions at our global JLR sites. - Walk and Talk is open to men & women, giving everyone a chance to be supported in a safe space for conversation around Mental Health awareness. - Our ambition is to get more companies walking and talking for all employee’s wellbeing, not just men, with BAT and Aston Martin Lagonda having already joined the Wellbeing movement.   4. Nutrition: Consider your diet: Choose good health, low cholesterol:   - 95% of your serotonin is produced by your gut, which is lined with a hundred million nerve cells, meaning that the digestion process will also guide your emotions. - When comparing traditional Mediterranean diets and traditional Japanese diets with a typical ‘Western’ diet, the risk of depression is 25% to 35% lower. - Consider a more traditional diet incorporating more vegetables, fruits, unprocessed grains, fish and seafood; and only modest amounts of lean meat and dairy. There are many things we should all do to improve our health, and much of it starts with a conversation.
