Hospitals and Health Care

Our values: put patients first, take pride in what we do, respect others, act with integrity, strive to be the best. 💙

About us

One of the largest Trusts in the UK, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK’s best known hospitals – Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield – as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation. We work closely with a wide range of health and care partners to deliver the best care to our local population, and we play an active role in the integrated care systems (ICS) in south east and north west London. We have a long tradition of clinical and scientific achievement and – as part of King’s Health Partners – we are one of England’s eight academic health sciences centres (AHSCs), bringing together world-class clinical services, teaching and research. We are rated Good overall by the Care Quality Commission, and have one of the lowest mortality rates in the country. With around 25,300 staff, we are one of the largest employers locally. We aim to reflect the diversity of the local communities we serve and continue to develop new and existing partnerships with local people, patients, neighbouring NHS organisations, local authorities and charitable bodies and GPs. The dedication and skills of our employees lie at the heart of our organisation. We strive to recruit and retain the best staff to ensure that our services are high quality, safe and patient focused.

  • In case you missed it, this month we celebrated our annual Nursing and Midwifery Week. There were plenty of events and activities for everyone to get involved in, including a poster competition, specially themed menus, awards, talks, a career development board game and information stalls. It was a great opportunity to share the fantastic work of our nursing and midwifery colleagues, celebrate their achievements and to say thank you for everything they do. Staff set up information stalls around our hospitals and community services to showcase their work and to provide career development and wellbeing advice. The Nightingale Academy held an event with excellent speakers and presented our new Nightingale nurses and midwives with their awards. The celebrations ended with an uplifting awards ceremony where teams and individuals were recognised for their outstanding work. Take a look at our photos from the week. Can you spot some familiar faces? 📸 If you would like to join our nursing or midwifery teams, visit the Guy's and St Thomas' jobs page: https://ow.ly/l6Kr50RYJmJ #TeamGSTT #Nursing #Midwifery #NursingJobs #MidwiferyJobs Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals

  • As a part of our sustainability strategy we are committed to reducing our building and transport emissions, reducing single-use items, and maximising our green spaces. However, did you know that as a part of our strategy we are reducing the environmental impact of our food too? We source ingredients from our local community, promote healthy and nutritious plant-based meal options, and are taking steps to reduce food waste in food production, in our restaurants and cafes, and in our wards. Most recently, you may have seen a new more sustainable meat added to our menu. This month we introduced venison at Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Royal Brompton hospitals for our patients and staff to enjoy. Venison is a highly sustainable source of meat – and is a similar price to beef. Sourced from Scotland, deer are free-range animals and have a low carbon footprint. On top of this, venison is a great source of protein and vitamins and has fewer calories and cholesterol content than most farmed meats. Chef Ned, catering chef manager who led the roll out, said: “We have been working on this project for over a year, and I am so pleased that we are now able to introduce this sustainable, healthier, and delicious red meat to the menu at our hospitals for our patients and staff to enjoy.” Thank you to our catering team who hosted a special venison-themed day at Shepherd Hall at St Thomas’ Hospital to mark the introduction of this sustainable meat to our menus. #TeamGSTT #Sustainability #HospitalCatering

  • Evelina London’s lead research pharmacist, Mandy Wan, has been selected as a member of the national Pharmacy Research Advisory Group (PRAG) hosted by NHS England. The process was highly competitive but Mandy's qualifications and experience stood out. • Congratulations to Dr Vishakha Tripathi who is the first consultant genetic counsellor to be appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Academy for Healthcare Science. The fellowship was given in recognition of Dr Tripathi’s contribution to her profession and to wider healthcare science. Dr Tripathi says: “It feels like a personal moment of breaking the glass ceiling for me, but more so for all colleagues in genomic medicine and genetic counselling who tirelessly champion why what we do is important and how much it matters to our patients. I am grateful for the honour and also quite emotional if I am honest and hope it inspires many.” #TeamGSTT #HealthcareScience #GeneticCounsellor

🎤 Did you know that the mother of Welsh actor and composer, Ivor Novello, started singing for breathing classes at the Royal Brompton in 1926? Almost 100 years on and the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals arts team are continuing this tradition to enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of respiratory patients at our hospitals. Find out more about what the team does in this week's episode of More Than a Hospital as part of #CreativityandWellbeingWeek https://lnkd.in/e-VhmWB7

  • Say hello to Shivon Parkash, a sister on the haematology day unit at Guy's Hospital. 👋 What is your role? "My role involves patient care, and ensuring the administration of treatments, blood draws and assessments. I also have an administrative role, and ensure the haematology day unit appointment system is managed correctly. I also support with staff personal development and caring for the wellbeing of my team and patients." Tell us about a typical day "My typical day can vary. I am a clinical member of staff, but also have to maintain the behind the scenes of the department. For example, ensuring that all staff members have the right competencies, and that any sickness is reported. I also have meetings with senior management in the Trust to discuss quality improvements, whilst ensuring the unit has the right patients attending, and looking through the referral system." What’s the best thing about your job? "I love that my role is varied and I have the opportunity to keep up my clinical skills. I also love that you do not know what you may face each day as it is different. I also love the relationship I have with the multidisciplinary team as there is no hierarchy." #TeamGSTT #NHS #NursingCareers #Haematology

Stephanie Calvert and I are celebrating five years as a jobsharing partnership. Having moved from policing to the NHS in July 2023 joining Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust we have reflected on the process of moving roles as a collective and getting to grips with a whole new sector. What will the next five years bring? We can't wait to find out and we'll be sure to update you as we go!
