☀️ Heuldro'r Haf ☀️ Gan nodi canol haf a 'diwrnod hiraf' a 'noson fyrraf' y flwyddyn, a oeddech chi'n gwybod bod Heuldro'r Haf mewn gwirionedd yn foment benodol mewn amser? Oherwydd echel cylchdroi'r Ddaear a'n hechelin mudiant o amgylch yr Haul, daw'r foment pan fydd pa bynnag hemisffer rydych chi ynddo yn gogwyddo fwyaf tuag at yr Haul 🌍 -- ☀️ Summer Solstice ☀️ Marking the midsummer and the 'longest day' and 'shortest night' of the year, did you know that the Summer Solstice is actually an exact moment in time? Due to the axis of rotation of the Earth and our axis of motion around the Sun, the Summer Solstice is when whichever hemisphere you're in is most tilted towards the Sun 🌍 📍Hay Bluff

🎊📢 Wythnos diwethaf cynhaliwyd cyfarfod cyntaf safleoedd UNESCO Cymru gyfan yng Nghanolfan Ymwelwyr Bannau Brycheiniog ym Mynydd Illtud! Daeth pob un o’r saith safle UNESCO yng Nghymru at ei gilydd ar gyfer yr ail o weithdai rhanbarthol ‘O Leol i Fyd-eang’ UNESCO UK i drafod heriau, cyfleoedd a dyfodol y safleoedd pwysig hyn o fewn ein tirwedd a’n diwylliant Cymreig. -- 🎊📢 Last week the first pan-Wales UNESCO sites get-together was held at the Bannau Brycheiniog Visitor Centre at Mynydd Illtud! All seven UNESCO sites in Wales came together for the second of the UK National Commission for UNESCO 'Local to Global' regional workshops to discuss the challenges, opportunities and future of these important sites within our Welsh landscape and culture.
Our Local to Global regional workshops have gone from strength to strength in the last few days. Last Friday we joined colleagues UNESCO designated sites across Wales at Fforest Fawr UNESCO Global Geopark, and then on Monday we were at the Historic Royal Palaces Tower of London to work with representatives from UNESCO sites in London and the South East. Thank you to all who took part in the workshops, especially our host sites. The Local to Global project has been made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players. 🌳 Pa mor uchel all coeden dyfu? “Y coed ar glogwyn uchaf rydw i wedi dod ar ei thraws yw Criafolen ar uchder o 2025 troedfedd (625m).. yn y Mynyddoedd Du, sydd rhaid bod yr uchaf yng Nghymru a Lloegr” [The Ancient Woods of South-East Wales, Oliver Rackham]. Ar ol clywed am waith Oliver Rackham a’r goeden Griafol hon yn ein parc, mae ein Wardeniaid Coed a staff, wedi bod yn crwydro’r bryniau a cheunentydd yn chwilio am y coed arbennig hyn 👈👀 Yn dilyn peth ymchwil, daeth y tim o hyd i’r union goeden a nododd Oliver Rackham flynyddoedd yn ol, gyda’r Griafolen ar uchder o 625metr. I gydnabod y llyfr a’i waith, maent wedi galw y goeden dan sylw yn ‘Griafolen Oliver Rackham’. 🌲 Ydych chi wedi dod ar draws coeden yn tyfu yn uchel yn ein parc? Rhowch wybod yn y sylwadau isod ⬇️ -- 🌳 How high can a tree grow? “The highest cliff trees that I have seen are Rowan at 2050 ft (625 m).. in the Black Mountains, which must be among the highest trees in England and Wales.” [The Ancient Woods of South-East Wales, Oliver Rackham]. Having been told about the work of Oliver Rackham and the high growing Rowans within our park, our Tree Wardens and staff, alongside The Woodland Trust scrambled over hills and gullies in search of these very special trees 👈👀 With a bit of research, the team found the exact same trees that Oliver Rackham had noted many years ago, with the Rowan tree at exactly 625 m. In recognition of the book and his work they named the tree photographed ‘Oliver Rackham's Rowan’ 🌲 Have you spotted high growing trees within our park? Let us know in the comments below ⬇️
