The Conway Update

Hi! I occasionally post simulations involving Conway’s Game of Life. Each of these are followed up by some curly brackets with some stuff inside em. What do these mean? Lets break them down with an example:

{50x50, 100, 0.4, “Hi!345”}

The first and second terms are simple. Term 1 is just the grid size in [X, Y] form. The second term is just the number of frames are in the gif.

The next term (0.4) is used to scale the initial density of the simulation. 1.0 is an entirely full screen, and 0.0 is an entirely empty screen.

What about that last part? The “Hi!345”? Simple! it’s the seed for the board. For my program, i used seeded randomization, that way if i for any reason want to see a board again, i can! Additionally sometimes it’s funny to see what result a string will produce!

If you ever want to see a specific simulation be sure to send an ask! When sending the ask, you can assume the defaults values going to be:

{50x50, 100, 0.3, “”}

An ask should at the very least request a seed, however if you want specifics for any of the other values please just be sure to say them!

Hope y'all enjoy the simulations!

One thing that pisses me off is people seeing fish in aquariums (the establishments, not home aquariums) and being like “It’s so sad because the ocean is so big and the tank is so small and they’ll never know freedom blah blah blah-“ I’m not talking about sharks and marine mammals here but the majority of fish are not at all bothered by being in an aquarium instead of the open ocean. Like, I personally would love to be a little clown fish in one of those big reef tanks. Fed regularly. Whole team of people monitoring my health and well-being. No predators. Medicated if I show signs of illness. Aquarium fish have cushy gigs in comparison to their wild companions.

I saw someone say this about a blue lobster that was wild caught and brought to an aquarium. Like dude. It’s a lobster. They’re solitary sedentary creatures. They live in little crevices and they don’t move from them often. They abhor other creatures. Also, this lobster is distinctly bad at being a lobster because it is bright neon blue. I don’t think he’s yearning for the open sea. He’s probably yearning for his next mussel. Which is, coincidentally, the same thing he’d be doing if he wasn’t in an aquarium.

If you had the choice what would you pick ? [Both are tax free***]

$1,000 a day for life

One time payment of $10,000,000

Explain your reasoning plzzz

wingedcatgirl

$10,000,000 can buy many $1,000 a day for life

sigmaleph

so if you can get a non-terrible return on investment then a $10 000 000 lump sum is worth more than $1 000 daily but on the other hand i know very little in practice about finance and it seems entirely possible I fuck up in the process of investing the money and lose it, or maybe it just gets stolen or something. the guaranteed daily sum is much safer against those kinds of problems, and i'm a fairly risk-averse person.

captain-cargoshorts

You get more money if you live 10,001 days, which is just shy of 28 years. And that kind of money can help you live that long.

I don't give a shit about the stock market and you can't make me

saxifraga-x-urbium

i would struggle to spend 1000 a day so that will add up fast

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

10 mil 10 mil is a stupid amount of money and can make itself back through investments ez
