Anti-Harassment Tools team to work on generating data on testwiki[edit]

Hi y'all! As a heads up, the Anti-Harassment Tools team will work on generating a bunch of data on this wiki next week in preparation for some user tests to be done with the new Checkuser. The edits will be made from non-WMF accounts. Let me know if there are any concerns with that. @Krinkle and Amorymeltzer: Pinging you both as you are quite active on this wiki. Thanks. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 17:12, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up NKohli, will there be something distinctive about the new accounts? It might be worth giving the meta:Small Wiki Monitoring Team a note as well, in case some of it seems suspicious. Not sure anyone watches that talk page, though. ~ Amory (utc) 18:17, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Amorymeltzer: Not really. We're trying to make them as inconspicuous as possible so the data doesn't bias our users when they see it. Rest assured, it won't be disruptive in any way. I will leave a note on meta:Small Wiki Monitoring Team like you suggest. Thanks! -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 20:54, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Best practices when using Special:Import[edit]

Special:Import has several settings to choose from. What is the best combination to ensure both copyright attribution but also not filling user's accounts here with edits they didn't make? I've been erring on the side of the second one by not choosing things like "copy all the revisions for this page" and "assign edits to local users where the named user exists locally", but wanted to double check. Example. Please ping on reply. Thanks. Novem Linguae (talk) 13:40, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Novem Linguae: Technically, what you did with that example did not preserve enough attribution. Personally, I like when my edits are propagated.   — Jeff G. ツ 14:35, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But they did make those edits. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:33, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback everyone. In the future I will import everything. If you feel it is needed, I can also delete or re-import all the stuff I already imported. Novem Linguae (talk) 09:02, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I tried importing today with all the boxes checked, and it times out after 1 minute. I imagine the child templates have too many revisions. I guess I'll have to do a less thorough import for at least some of my imports. However there is one good thing. In an importd page's history, it does say that it has been imported, and it gives a link back to the original page. Perhaps I can just add a "please see that page's history for attribution" edit summary. Novem Linguae (talk) 08:04, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Novem Linguae: I recommend a permalink for the then-current revision.   — Jeff G. ツ 08:23, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Additional testwiki user rights to sync up with enwiki[edit]

I'm thinking about filing a Phab ticket for the following, to bring us more in sync with enwiki. This would help with testing user scripts. I got the idea for this from seeing a comment at en:WP:US/R, where a user had to ask for multiple user rights on a different language wiki to test something, because the user rights were not available on testwiki.

See also testwiki:Special:UserGroupRights and w:Special:ListGroupRights.

  • Reviewer
    • Change display name for "Reviewer" to "Pending changes reviewer"
    • Remove "stablesettings" right from "reviewer"

    • Make "reviewer" assignable by sysops (currently only assignable by bureaucrats)

Crossed out. FlaggedRevs is not installed, and there is a moratorium on installing it. Novem Linguae (talk) 08:55, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes extension (aka mw:Extension:FlaggedRevs)[edit]

I just noticed that pending changes isn't installed for this wiki yet. So restructuring the "reviewer" right as described above would require installing it.

I see 350 people with the "reviewer" right granted, and I am guessing these folks were granted it with the intention of using mw:Help:Patrolled edits rather than mw:Extension:FlaggedRevs. So we may want to give some additional thought and discussion to the "reviewer" part of the above proposal. I think there is an argument to not change reviewer and leave it as is to minimize disruption, although I haven't decided yet. Feel free to weigh in. Ping active bureaucrat Xaosflux. Novem Linguae (talk) 20:29, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

General[edit]

So, enwiki is quite far from the "normal" when it comes to page triage/patrolling - testwiki is used by everyone from everywhere, so not sure it's a great idea to try to mirror some very specific extension settings if they are only in use on enwiki here. We prob have no need to put custom group lables in place, we get testers of all sorts of languages already. -- Xaosflux (foo/bar) talk 20:37, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox: button 'Edit source code' initially does not show source code to edit[edit]

QTE will be running Selenium tests against testwiki this week[edit]

As part of the MediaWiki to Kubernetes migration, we will be running Selenium tests against testwiki. If all goes to plan, it should run in the next few days. It might have to be run a few times, as there will likely be failures the first few times it is run.

It will run as User:DWalden (WMF) (probably as a bot account). It will run as one of the test accounts in meta:Category:WMF_test_accounts: User:QTE-SeleniumTest2.

I plan to run the Selenium tests in the mediawiki core repository and most of the extensions (the same ones that run as "selenium-daily" on Jenkins https://integration.wikimedia.org/ci/view/selenium-daily/).

See phab:T337489. DWalden (WMF) (talk) 06:31, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

on this test wiki are the pages created by users, persistent ? Add "patroller" as a testwiki user group?[edit]

Re-proposing this. This was discussed above at #Additional testwiki user rights to sync up with enwiki. Hoping to not get any objections this time. Can we get consensus here so I can create a phab ticket to add a "patroller" group to testwiki? This would reduce the number of temporary admins that need to apply at WP:PERM, then wait a month, just to get a temporary permission that needs to be renewed. There's been a couple lately (Chlod, Sohom Datta, MPGuy2824). I'd rather just use my testwiki admin to give these folks permanent patroller.

Note: Reviewer right already exists, but is something different.

  • Patroller
    • Create "patroller" user group. This is for access to the mw:Extension:PageTriage extension, specifically the Page Curation toolbar. Currently only available to testwiki admins.
    • Display name should be "New page reviewer"
    • Should be assignable by sysop
    • Add "patrol" right to "patroller"

Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, –Novem Linguae (talk) 13:01, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Remove permission[edit]

Hi there, I don't really need to be a reviewer here on test wikipedia, and was wondering if someone could remove that for me? Much appreciated! Best, Maximillion Pegasus (talk) 05:53, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like currently neither administrators or bureaucrats have the ability to do this. Hence I asked at m:SRP. --Ameisenigel (talk) 09:37, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefed IP[edit]

Hi, I found that there are serval IP address being indefed. I don’t know why the IP are indef as IP address may transfer to new users. Do we actually need those indef blocks are they are just test blocks. If they are no longer needed, is it possible to unblock them? 165.86.81.101 08:48, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. They are all one year+, so I'll unblock. —Justin (koavf)TCM 09:32, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
