Syncope’s Writing Masterpost
Hi, I’m Sync, and I write!
My non-writing account for memes and queer and autistic content is @spiderace.
I like angst, loss of consciousness and hurt/comfort, emphasis on comfort. I don’t care about the gender of participants, so different ones will occur. I’ll tag.
Always feel free to ask me about my characters or stories, anonymously or not. :)
If you like consensual BDSM with male subs there’s a fair amount of porn with plot on my AO3.
(Cometverse. Villain rescues minor villain, hero whumpers, superhero OCs, agender caretaker and male whumpee; complete)
2. Bathtub
(Trifold Balance universe. male vampire whumpee, non-binary caretaker, trapped in a small room, morbid vampire stuff; in progress)
14. His Eyes Have All The Seeming
Necessary Intervention (Jack Ford, Hunter, hospitalization and involuntary sedation, convalescence)
(Synchronium universe. Magic living weapon, female whumpee, male whumper and caretaker; complete)
Part 1: Velvet
Part 2: Stay
Part 3: Discipline
Part 4: Silk
Part 5: Would You Say No
Part 6: Spring Campaign
Part 7: Wrath
Part 8: All Things End
I review completed hurt/comfort stories that I enjoyed and do some light analysis of why I enjoyed them so readers can get an idea if they might also want to read one.
Fainting/loss of consciousness
Helpers who have been through it themselves
Female caretaker and vampire whumpee
Lone survivor (magic, noncon sleep spell, male whumpee, female caretaker)
The Regulator (AO3 link, OC, superheroes, male whumpee and male caretaker)
Oh, It’s You (hero x villain reblog)
Vitrified (vampire lady with ‘trophies’ preservesd in glass)
(Astartes space marine whump, Deathwatch kill team, military whump, harsh training, recovery)
i’m having the most trouble with coming up with comfort tropes! if you have a favourite comfort trope, don’t hesitate to send it in!!
The moment when a character puts their arms around someone and the other finally realize they’re safe, and they just melt.
The feeling of a cold cloth on the face of a sick person.
Cold water on a dry throat; hot water on a sore one.
The feeling of having a blanket put around their shoulders and snugged up around their neck.
Rubbing in a small circle on someone’s back to let them know it’s okay.
A character leaning on someone on the couch and just gradually getting heavier and heavier as they fall asleep.
Someone waking up from a nightmare with a quiet sharp inhale, not a scream, not shooting upright, but their caretaker is so vigilant for signs of distress that they’re there immediately to reassure them of what’s real and that they’re not alone.

“Uhm, long story, want a cup of tea while you listen?”
No pressure tags: @tildeathiwillwrite @willtheweaver @friendlesscat and open tag ofc
Thank you for the tag! :D
It’s very rare for me to write anything at all and when I do those are half finished brainstorm drabbles that will never be finished. However, I can proudly announce that today I’ve written a few sentences, haha.
This is the last sentence of a small, nameless drabble:
“Something bitter and sweet, beautiful to the point it hurts. ”
No pressure tags (yay I learned a new term from prev, thanks!): @snaillamp @coqum @lawrencespen1777 @bleedingintogold @whumpbug @tildeathiwillwrite (I noticed that you were already tagged, but you’re a dear mutual to me and you can do it again if you want hehe-) and anyone else who wants to join! :D
Ayyye tag game!
Roman pursed his lips, unsure how to feel.

thinking of whump less as a trope and more as a genre frees you to do a lot more with it
but seriously. it asks you to find something beautiful about pain, to see the suffering for what it is beyond its context. the raw, human desire to feel. it takes things often depicted with disgust and reveres them with love without making it about anything except exactly what it is- free of metaphor, true to itself. tell me thats not at least worthy of consideration as art.
@whump-snob yes, exactly! and its fascinating because these are emotions we usually either shy away from or only allow to impact a narrative in very specific circumstances.
i think the crossover between horror and whump as genres is also something worth investigating. horror often searches for fear in the audience, but the way it accomplishes this tends to overlap with the way whump searches for pity and compassion in the audience- through causing the main characters pain, either physically or psychologically.
i think the difference comes with how removed you want the audience to feel from the situation, and how much hope you want the audience to have. whump tends to contain more hope than horror simply because having hope leaves room for compassion and pity, while without it you get fear, terror, and horror. its why so much whump fan content exists for horror media- the pieces are already there, they just need a different narrative framing
Now the comparison of horror and the element of hope is a really interesting one because I like that genre, too. I like it for a totally different feel, but the divorcement of that sensation from any real-world impulse is a parallel one. And the horror I hate most is the kind that involves dangling hope and then taking it away, like the Strangers films, whereas the whump I like the most is about gaining hope from a place of starting with none.
yeah, i think theres something to be said for a difference in the framing of tragedy, especially when in horror the premise is usually meant to evoke hopelessness in the viewer, or at least a level of discomfort that can inspire it. when you add hope and then take it away it adds a layer of superiority, as if the viewer was stupid for considering the possibility of hope, which has its merits of done well but often comes across as pretentious and alienating to an audience
dilapidated
content: environmental whump, losing consciousness
“We just have to make sure not to touch too many things,” Caretaker explained as they led Whumpee through the abandoned factory building. “I know you don’t really believe in ghosts and such, but the ones here can get quite feisty when their stuff is moved around.”
“And you know that how, exactly?” Whumpee ducked under a broken support column, making a face when they saw spiders scurrying out of their way. “You got in trouble with the building manager?”
“You think it’s funny. I think showing the dead some basic respect is just etiquette.”
“No, I’m serious. Did you encounter some ghosts here?” The building was plenty dilapidated, it had probably been empty and abandoned for decades. They had no idea what sort of ghosts would inhabit it, if any, but they were still leaning towards not believing any of that supernatural crap.
“I’ve seen some stuff, let’s just say that. Stuff that would likely convince you to be a little more careful of where you’re stepping.”
Whumpee looked down at the floor, but then just rolled their eyes. “Right. Well, let’s just say—” The ground suddenly disappeared from under their feet with a loud crash, and they fell through the floor like it had never even been there. They hit their head on something quite hard on impact, and everything went black.
The last thing they heard was Caretaker’s worried scream.

Intro
Hi Guys, Gals and Everyone in-between!
I was kinda nervous about doing an intro but I have had some recent confidence after talking to some other writers on Tumblr. I’m Lillie, a fantasy writer and artist, and now part of the whump community.
Idk how much info is okay to put so I’ll just focus on what I plan to do with this blog.
- I want to post prompts for other writers going through dry spots or just for the public enjoyment. You don’t have to ask to use the prompts, they are for you all.
- I want to get constructive feedback on writing styles and art techniques, anything helps!
- I want to build a safe place where people can just chill, and unload, I needed that back then, so I want to make it now.
- Feel free to ask anything, when it comes to questions in the chat, I love to talk, in person not so much.
Anyway thanks to these four for building my confidence a little, and I can’t wait to learn more about Tumblr and you all. If this goes well I plan to have a schedule for post types out within the next month! Shoutout to my mutuals and my first commenter!
hiiii im excited to see what u write! :)
