Supervision for users over 13 or the applicable age

We take your privacy seriously, and want you to know how Family Link parental supervision works when it’s added to your Google Account or when you update your Google Account after you turn 13 (or the applicable age in your country).

Important: If your parent created a Google Account for you with Family Link or provided consent for you to continue with your Google Account, your supervision controls may be different.

What parents can do with Family Link

If you and your parent add supervision to your Google Account or you update your Google Account after you turn 13 (or the applicable age in your country), your parent can use Family Link to:

Change account settings & controls Approve or block apps on supervised devices Location of Android devices Screen time on supervised devices Google Chrome, Search & Play filters

Tip: Purchase approval settings apply only to purchases made through Google Play's billing system.

If you’re above the applicable age in your country, you or your parent can stop supervision at any time.

What parents can’t check or do

If you and your parent choose to supervise your Google Account, your parent can’t use Family Link to:

  • Remotely monitor your screen
  • Check your past searches
  • Check your Chrome browsing history
  • Check or reset your account password
  • Read your emails or messages
  • Listen to your calls
  • Delete your account
  • Choose a new screen lock password on your device
  • Erase the data on your device
  • Remove your ability to stop supervision

Stop supervision

Important: If you’re under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and provided consent for you to continue with your Google Account, neither you nor your parent can stop supervision.

You can only stop supervision if it was added to your Google Account or if you updated your account after turning 13 (or the applicable age in your country). This can be done either with or without your parent’s help.

Without your parent’s help

If you stop supervision without your parent’s help, your parent can be notified and your supervised Android devices will lock for 24 hours. You can still have access to emergency calling.

If your family group has a family payment method, you’ll be removed from the family group if you stop supervision without your parent’s permission.
