Even if you have already sent an eSim or donated to an eSim donation drive, there is more you can do. The team is calling for people to campaign in their communities to help spread the word about eSims and encourage donations.

"The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating illnesses in a multi-year, multistate outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections linked to queso fresco and cotija cheeses manufactured by Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc., of Modesto, California.
This outbreak includes cases dating back to 2014 and is currently ongoing."

listeriosis, the infection caused by listeria, can become very serious, and can cause death, miscarriage, and lifelong disability. most infections are not severe. listeria typically makes you sick within 2 weeks of exposure, but it can take as long as 3 months after being exposed to get sick. listeria is the third leading cause of foodborne illness deaths in the united states, and there have been confirmed deaths from this outbreak.
rizo-lopez foods supplies dairy ingredients to dozens of different brands making dozens of different types of foods across the entire country.
recalled products include:
Bright Farms, Campesino, Casa Cardenas, Dole, Don Francisco, Don Pancho, Dos Ranchitos, El Huache, Food City, Fresh Express, H-E-B, La Ordena, Marketside, President’s Choice, Ready Pac Bistro, Rio Grande, Rizo Bros, Rojos, San Carlos, Santa Maria, Tio Francisco, Trader Joe’s, 365 Whole Foods Market.
and freshly made food from various stores. for a good chunk of these products, all prior expiration dates are being recalled. many of these foods have been potentially contaminated for years.
"Listeria is especially harmful to people who are pregnant, aged 65 or older, or have weakened immune systems. This is because Listeria is more likely to spread beyond their gut to other parts of their body, resulting in a severe condition known as invasive listeriosis."

hey there is some major and dangerous misinformation going around about this recall. a lot of people are clicking the FDA outbreak link, apparently skimming the page, seeing this map:
ALT...and then assuming this is where the listeria contaminated food is, and encouraging everyone not in these states to feel safe and eat the recalled food.
which is wrong and bad advice that can kill people.
the products in this recall were shipped nationwide. the map represents the locations of patients who worked with their healthcare teams through a specific process of diagnosing, reporting, and investigating to become associated with this outbreak. the map does not represent where the contaminated food is. the listeria-contaminated food is nationwide.
the CDC outbreak map has more context right there.
ALTas the CDC emphasizes, the true count is probably significantly higher.
stop encouraging people to expose themselves to listeria.
also, there have been additional recalls since I made this post. and some people in the notes of this post celebrated having foods that were not included in the recall, that have now been recalled because they were contaminated.
to remain updated on these recalls in the US, continue to check the FDA recalls and encourage others to do the same. this is still ongoing and there are more recalls every day, and it can take a day or few for the FDA to add every new recall to the outbreak page. so use the recall page for the latest recall listings.
