Rock & Roar is the story of Miles Kitteridge, a streetwise feline and aspiring young musician who’s trying to find his place in the world. The year is 1984 in New York City, and he’s just been hired as an assistant for a New Wave band called Fearless Minds who are about to set off on an exciting and dangerous cross-country concert tour.

Rock & Roar is a love letter to popular music history and a comedy adventure for all ages. The comic updates with a new page every Saturday between the hours of 8pm and 9pm PST.

Here are my latest concepts of Cassie! Her design hasn’t changed much, so I’ve reused some of my old sketches of her to put these together. I’ve decided she’s the one who gets to wear those extra hi Converse (sorry Emma. You have the iconic checkered Vans though!).

Cassie Pawssom is Emma’s best friend, and the drummer in Scream At The Moon. Despite her great love of fantasy - she is currently going through her vampire romance novel phase, as we can see - she is pragmatic in her day-to-day life and thinks through every decision with great care, though she can be too cautious at times. However, her good sense has also been what has allowed her to talk her friends out of some very bad ideas, thus preventing a whole lot of trouble. Aside from her reputation for being responsible, she is also very caring and sincere, a true friend whom you can always count on.

Rock & Roar 2 will go public after the current Rock & Roar comic ends. The story takes place 20 years after the first one, in the year 2006; a time of MySpace, pop punk, and the third wave of emo.

Edit: Feel like it’s the responsible thing to provide a little advisory. Sienna’s playlist gets a bit raunchy in places. Jimmy’s has some screaming and heavy themes, and to a smaller extent so does Emma’s, though Emma’s is much lighter in tone.

Here are some of my latest gesture and expression drawings of Jimmy Skramz the jackal! Jimmy is a vocalist and guitarist in the emo band Scream At The Moon, and his bandmates are Emma Kitteridge, Cassie Pawssom, and Troy Campbull.

Jimmy has a cautious personality and it takes him a while to feel comfortable around new people and situations. But once you gain his trust (and if you can look past his flea problem…) you’ll find him to be kind, very loyal, and selfless. Sure, he can certainly be moody, but he is also a dependable friend who will be by your side when the going gets tough. This resourceful scavenger is clever and creative, and experiences emotions and life in general with a great deal of intensity. Though he is frequently anxious, he tries to keep his sense of humor even in the darkest times - and he’s definitely gotten through some rough patches.

Many of you have met them before, but here again are the two leads for Rock & Roar 2: The Heartstring Diaries!

On the right we have Emma Kitteridge, Miles’s future niece, with her teal Telecaster, which she has adorned with a cat skull sticker, and has scribbled many stars in permanent marker on the pick guard.

On the left is Jimmy Skramz the jackal, with his well-worn left-handed white Les Paul, which stands out brightly against his black clothing. He wears a “Rites of Fall” shirt - my nod to what most consider to be the first emo band in real life, Rites of Spring. Emma dyes the ends of Jimmy’s bangs blue after he joins her band Scream At The Moon, and together they are a dynamic duo as they share the roles of vocalists and guitarists, with Emma on lead guitar and Jimmy on rhythm.

Now that I’ve introduced all the major Rock & Roar 1 characters, I’ll once more be sharing the concepts I’m creating for Rock & Roar 2. 💖 So let’s journey to the mid-2000s with Sienna Kitteridge, Miles’s future niece and the sister of our main protagonist, Emma.

Sienna is always the life of the party. She’s a very popular student in her senior year at Pacific Coast High, where she loves to participate in the planning of school events, and excels in her classes. Bright and creative, Sienna’s got a lot of ideas for future business ventures, and no one doubts that she’s got the organizational skills and confidence to make them happen.

At times, she can be overbearing, and some might find her enthusiasm to be annoying - an opinion especially held by her sister Emma, who can’t stand some of Sienna’s friends and especially loathes her taste in music.

But even though loud squabbles may often break out between Sienna and Emma, at the end of the day they are always there for each other, and their different talents combined can make them a truly dynamic duo.
