I wanted to let you guys marinate on what I meant by this for a bit before explaining. I think both flags are gaudy and over-detailed, and they both became that way from an inexplicable drive to represent everything within them pictorially, continuously expanding to encompass new symbols until it becomes noise. and then the added phenomenon where this pictorial representation becomes synecdoche for representation of the thing itself. the stars & stripes ARE the united will of our 50 states and disrespecting the flag is disrespecting our freedom, the purple ring IS your support for intersex people and flying any other version of the flag is erasure. the progress flag is a deeply american creation.

Personally, I prefer the unbloated originals

Also, six stripe rainbow is not the original.

It was designed as an 8-stripe:

image

It dropped to 7 when it got difficult to get the hot pink color, and then to 6 when it was going to be used for an SF pride parade and they needed equal numbers of stripes on each side of the street.

So the six stripe rainbow flag isn't an unbloated original, it's a later "unbloated" version of the "bloated" original.

made a lot of counterintuitive decisions while working on ten skies, a lot of the more offbeat things about the song structures can be explained by the film. like smokestacks is the most dynamic and explosive moment of energy in the film, but the shot doesn’t change very much at all, so it’s the same drum loop the entire time. nightfall inspired me to do sparkly synths again, but there’s no visible stars, so the whole thing is muffled and narrowed. the view from below & hurried visitors are mostly so empty as to let james’s soundscapes take more of the focus for those moments in particular. imo it’s very dependent on the film, but I’m told it works in isolation as well.

chimeraas asked:

What would you recommend the community flag (ie entire lgbtqia+ community as a whole) be then? The rainbow? Or something else entirely? I know the rainbow is generally seen as a ‘gay’ flag but if I remember correctly, it was created to represent the entire community?

I’m not a vexillilogist, I’m not even a huge fan of the rainbow, I think we just need the flag version of the lgbtq+ -> queer lexiconical transition. something that implies open infinity & progress, that isn’t contradicted when new groups come under the umbrella.

What do you think of this flag? Personally I quite like it, as I think that the inclusion of intersex symbolism (as well as trans symbolism, and poc symbolism) is great bc of the fact that they represent marginalized or forgotten members of the community, and it also uses the og Gilbert Baker flag with the pink stripe!

the only thing different is the design, the rest of what I said obviously still applies.

one of the educational pc games from the 90s that i played was this geography teaching thing, but because it was the 90s they just had 3 countries. Argentina, Kenya, and Japan. I spent a really long time as a pup thinking that argentina was like, the main spanish speaking country, cus i knew about it before i knew about spain or mexico or any other primarily spanish speaking country.
