ICCA was delighted to host a meet-and-greet for the nearly 40 Inclusion Fund recipients during ICCA 2024 Hong Kong. Recipients gathered in the Membership Lounge alongside members of the ICCA Bureau, the Young ICCA leadership, and the ICCA Executive Body. The Fund was established by the ICCA Inclusiveness Committee to fund a number of recipients to attend ICCA Congresses in person. ICCA thanks Selection Committee members Shirin Gurdova, Rohit Bhat, and Eduardo Zuleta, as well as HKIAC, for their support in facilitating the attendance of the Inclusion Fund recipients and for welcoming them to the Congress. ICCA is pleased to announce that Bálint Kovács is the recipient of the second edition of the ICCA-Guillermo Aguilar-Alvarez Memorial Prize. The announcement took place during the Opening Ceremony of the ICCA 2024 Hong Kong Congress on 5 May 2024. Mr. Kovács's winning paper, titled ‘Watch for the Ripples, Not Just the Splash: How the EU Position on Investment Arbitration Has Affected the Enforcement of Awards,’ was published in the Central European Journal of Comparative Law in 2022. ICCA thanks Advisory Board members Stefano Azzali, Lise Bosman, Donald Francis Donovan, Aloysius Llamzon, Silvia M. Marchili, and Caline Mouawad, as well as @Young ICCA Special Committee members Shirin Gurdova, Maanas Jain, Rohit Bhat, Sara Koleilat-Aranjo and Julio Rivera Ríos. In addition to Mr. Kovács's work, the Advisory Board also recognized an essay titled ‘What is Wrong with Investment Arbitration? Evidence from a Set of Behavioral Experiments’ by Maria Laura Marceddu and Pietro Ortolani with an honourable mention. The third edition of the ICCA-Guillermo Aguilar Alvarez Memorial Prize will open for entries next year, with the winner set to be announced at the 2026 ICCA Congress in Madrid. ICCA is pleased to announce the launch of the Second Edition of ICCA’s Guide to the Interpretation of the 1958 New York Convention. The Second Edition of the Guide updates case law and expands on points of interest covered in the First Edition, aiming to refresh all 29 language versions in 2024 and 2025. Its launch in English and Chinese was celebrated during the ICCA 2024 Hong Kong Congress, with a celebration of the visionary work of Prof Albert Jan van den Berg, former Judiciary Committee Chair and a founding member of the project. A first copy of the Chinese language version was presented to Judge Xi Xiangyang of the Supreme People’s Court of China. ICCA International Council for Commercial Arbitration and AFSA International are delighted to announce that we have entered into an MoU for the publication of arbitral awards in proceedings between Southern African Development Community Secretariat (#SADC) parties. Anonymised awards will be included in the #ICCAPublications Awards Series, joining over 650 arbitral awards already published by ICCA and available in the Wolters Kluwer: International Arbitration & Mediation database. We look forward to shining a light on decision-making coming out of this very dynamic region in Sub-Saharan Africa. The MoU was signed last week at the Johannesburg Arbitration Week 2024 by AFSA's ZA-Patrick Lane SC and ICCA Executive Director Prof Lise Bosman. ICCA General Editor Prof Stephan Schill and Managing Editor Valentina Faienza anticipate a fruitful collaboration with AFSA's Patrick Lane SC, Svetlana Vasileva-Stratenwerth, Michael Kuper SC and Stanley Nyamanhindi, and to contribute in this way to the AFSA-SADC Alliance announced in Johannesburg.
