This isn't exactly on point

But I want to leave a quick heads up and not spend half an hour or more hunting for the most germane place to post this alert. Somebody is creating accounts impersonating Jimbo Wales. I really wish that account would be locked down—not locked, but I mean logged into on every project so this can't happen. When "Mr. Wales" replaced my page with a fake "banned indefinitely" template, I had quite a physiological response for 3 seconds before I realised I still existed, complete with my sysop powers. (It's a small project, and this is, I believe, the first "attack" of any kind we've ever received.)

What you are requesting is for this account to be unified. Currently the SUL system is in a testing phase, and during that phase it is only available to administrators (on any project). Sorry, I have a problem of "understanding":
  1. Do I understand right, that at this given moment it is NOT possible to prevent anyone else to create an account in some (any) WP named "WeHaWoe"?

  1. That will be impossible until Wednesday (when SUL is turned on for everyone). But unless you have some cyber-stalker I find it highly unlikely that anyone will do that.
  2. You can go through every project and create an account (takes six-seven hours), or you can wait till Wednesday and then unify your account (takes up to 15 minutes). Jon Harald Søby 16:13, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I now have a global account (Krun), and there is only one account that I have not managed to merge. It is on mediawiki.org. I probably created that account, but I seem not to have registered an email address (it was not required at the time), and for some reason the password is different from that of my other accounts. Anyway, there are no contributions at all from this account, and even though I have never really used mediawiki.org much, it would be nice to clear this up and incorporate that account into my global one if possible. I created a global account, and I own the en.wikipedia version. However, user 'tedder' exists on four other sites: de nl no zh. sulutil.php shows even more. One more problem occured. Yesterday when I tried to make SUL with name Сура it is started as I saw creating automatical accounts. Only one in de.wiki had been done and I even visited those page but today I can't either log in it (it is clear why) or make myself account Сура manually. It seems the account Сура in de.wiki is still exists, but I can do nothing with it. Hello to everyone, I'm Mess from Wikipedia in Italian language. I've followed the SUL instructions to merge my accounts (and I've done it), but unfortunately my username is usurpated by some users with low or zero contributions in the following wikiprojects:

Hello, sorry to say that, but imho this is a quite unnecessary work for everyone. I do not quite understand why You need to 'manage userpages' on projects where You don't plan to be active (just don't create them there, then You don't need to manage them). You might by a link or whatever land on any other language wiki again and thereby creating an account on that project (because You will automatically get logged in and thus the account is created).
Therefore I consider this request useless, like Sysiphos work it will happen again and again and again, please consider to delete Your sul and keep it deactivated if You do not wish these (imho benefit) of being logged in everywere instead of editing as IP, thanks,

This is not an opinion, this is reality, please read what SUL is all about before activating it. Another reality is, that You will have to ask on every wiki locally for a rename, because the local crats have to do the renames, You have several accounts that were created by login only, they could get lost (maybe with password recovery You could get them back) forever due to a bug, if You wish to have SUL deleted anyway You can say so. I do understand what You said, but I have the feeling You did not understand why it is a senseless work: Every time You get on any project where You are not active yet an account will be created (it is already created but not shown yet, Your name is reserved everywhere), so if You rename all those accounts now, You will have to do this again and again, I would suggest You leave SUL deactivated. Also because of this bug, if we delete Your SUL now, it might happen, that You loose all the automatic created accounts and can't log in to them anymore, thus not being able to confirm they are Yours, thus people might not rename them, and as said, there are wikis who do not rename users at all (only contributors to their wikis), therefore You might cause Yourself troubles with a non complete SUL account, accounts blocking Your merge that are even Yours. Sorry, no, Meta crats only rename on Meta. Stewards only rename on wikis without (or with inactive crats). So You will have to ask each wiki locally.
Please understand, I do not wish to annoy You here, and I got the reasoning, why You wish this. But as soon as You reactivate SUL You will have the same problem again, and problably You will cause Yourself an incomplete SUL account by this procedure. It's not a senseless work. Each project automatically activates an account only if a SUL-user logs in on that specific project. I have erroneously logged in on 86 projects the vast majority of which I'll never contribute to. Now I ask you to delete my global account (when the bug will be fixed) and then rename all the automatically generated 86 accounts. Hmm, I believe you are not getting what SUL really is, once your account has been fully merged, you will automatically have accounts on 730 wikis but it doesn't mean that you have to edit all those 730 wikis, it just means when you click a link to any of those wikis logged in from your home-wiki, your account will automatically be created and if you would like to make any changes to that wiki, you can do it logged into that wiki without the need to sign-up to that wiki, this is a very useful tool, and it helps users to be able to use all the wikis on wikimedia with just one password and, deleting your account and renaming those 86 accounts is a bit silly because that will create more work for the stewards who are already really busy with this. My advice to you would be to wait for the Bug to be fixed because if we delete your Global account now, you might lose all your 86 accounts and probably your homewiki as well...--Cometstyles 23:55, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I own the User:cailil global log in (I think). I've unified my accounts from en.wikipedia, simple.wikipedia, wikisources etc with this one. English Wikipedia is my home wiki and I have over 6,000 edits. I have automatically created accounst on a number of wikis at this point.

However the process seems to be incomplete - there is a User:cailil on de.wikipedia (another person) who has 4 edits since October 2007. Is it possible for me to "usurp" that account or do I need to request that it be renamed - if so are there any German Stewards who speak English - as I cannot speak German--Cailil 23:59, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Cailil, the problem is the user on de.wiki has edits, on de:Hilfe:Benutzernamen ändern/Benutzernamens-Übernahme it says, that the user should have 0 edits to usurp his account. You could try to contact the user, he has email turned on: de:Special:Emailuser/Cailil. I missed how to send a copy to myself on German WP but in essence I've asked him (saying how embarrassed I am to request this) to change his screen-name very slightly by adding a numeral or a symbol. I have explained as best as I can about the WMF SUL and I have mentioned that I have nerly 6,700 edits with this screen-name on other wikimedia sites.
