Jagwar@Malagasy Wiktionary

Please give administrator rights to user

  • Jagwar
  • The reason : the unique sysop of the wiktionary is inactive for 6 months.

Thank you! Jagwar 12:05, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello Jagwar. We can not grant permanent adminship unless the community has approved this. If there aren't yet enough people to do that on the Malagasy Wiktionary, please can you apply for temporary adminship instead (see section below) and make an announcement on the Wiktionary about this (for example on a village pump or other community discussion page). Angela 12:09, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Hello Angela. My name has already been entered in Mpandrindra (administrator requests) with other candidates ; However, I will announce it in the community page. I'll wait 30 days. If lack of response (I think I'll seek wp.users), I'll ask you for a temporary adminship. Jagwar 09:52, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Hello Jagwar, I saw your request on my page. I see that this is taking care of :-) Anthere 23:29, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
Hello Jagwar, as I tried to tell You on Your talkpage already the two links You provided [1] and [2] are leading to empty pages, please make a local announcement why You need sysop status, give us the link here and we will wait one week for the community to respond, many thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 01:39, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Here are the links we needed

PS: some links used in the left toolbar are broken and must be corrected. Best regards . Jagwar 14:56, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, Jagwar, I temporarily created a redirect to wikt:mg:wikibolana:Community Portal, so it can be reached via the navigation on the left. Please note, that the word "wikibolana:" is not the current namespace-prefix for "Wiktionary:" therefore entries named "wikibolana:..." are in the main namespace. If You are interested in translating the interface and also namespace names please be welcomed to sign up at betawiki:, which is the place where all interface-translations for Wikimedia-Foundation projects are done. Have a look at betawiki:Translating:How to start / betawiki:Translating:How_to_start/fr.

5 support votes with sensible reasons; already trusted on other wikis. The specific reason for the request (speedy requests not being acted upon) is still true a week later. -- sj | help translate |+ 01:33, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! Would you remove the import rights from his account? It's no longer necessary since he has +sysop. Maximillion Pegasus 02:05, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Is it possible to keep the importflag? There has been a vote and I have the community trust the import, removing the flag means wen I should ever stop as a admininstrator I have to stop als Importer also. Abigor talk 05:22, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
It is possible, but the likelihood of stepping down as an admin voluntarily is slim, and if, for some reason you are forced to resign, your importer flag would be removed anyway. Microchip08 @simpleWB 08:18, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Keeping the import flag is redundant. Administrators have access to Special:Import. Maximillion Pegasus 14:27, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Admins have only the transwiki right (which is only for transwiki), not the importer (which is for transwiki *and* XML import) right. --Thogo (talk) 14:29, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I see that now after looking at Special:ListGroupRights. Administrators should really have both rights though. Maximillion Pegasus 17:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

MacTire02@gvwiki

I request temporary sysop access.

  • Language Code: gv
  • List of local sysops: (0) gv:Special:Listadmins
  • List of local bureaucrats: (0) gv:Special:Listusers/bureaucrat
  • Local Request Link: gv:Wikipedia:Ynnyd y phobble#Reireydys
  • Local User Page: gv:User:MacTire02
  • Preferred duration and reason: Currently there are only two users on the Manx language project that are active, and our wikipedia has grown immensely over the past year (from under 300 articles to over 2100). This requires a lot of constant vigilance and maintenance to protect against vandalism. As there are only two of us there we haven't really been able to have a proper open discussion but on the link above you will find another link to the other user's page where the topic of adminship is discussed in further detail. Some of the MediaWiki stuff previously translated needs to be updated as some of the grammar etc. is inaccurate. Preferably we would request an admin on a permanent basis, but as I understand this may not be possible due to the size of the project, a shorter term would be sufficient, which can be extended/changed/transferred if sufficient people decide to join us (depending on a vote of course). Regards, --MacTire02 09:10, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Done, Hello MacTire02, please note that without a voting we can't make it permanent, but let's make it six months this time,
expires: 17-07-2009 please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only and to upload images preferably to commons:, please come back a few days before the status expires to prolong it or hold a local voting if the community grows, thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:57, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Birdy. For future reference, how many users need to contribute to the vote, and how active must those users be on the project? The problem we have is there are only two active users - myself and Shimmin Beg on a continual basis (pretty much every day) - and one other user - Norrin Strange - who contributes maybe once every two months. That means only two votes (obviously I can't vote for myself :-) ). Or would you know where I could obtain the guidelines to electing a sysop? Regards, --MacTire02 15:11, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Hello MacTire02, about 4-5, I'd generally say, also they should have contributions over a timespan, I am sorry to say, that in the past on other projects there occured sockedpuppeting for voting purposes...
In this case, I personally would grant You permanent status if the three (the two above and Alison) active users on that project would support Your candidacy, because You have had three temporary 3 months periods already.
As for the voting guidelines, there are no real general guidelines, because every project makes it a bit different, but usually the voting time is assumed at least one week (on smaller projects it would maybe be good to be left open longer), You could put an announcement in the village pump and create a page like Wikipedia:Administrators (in Your language, which is gv:Wikipedia:Reireyderyn, I guess).
I hope it helped, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:23, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Birdy. That's a great help to know. I'll check it out with the other users and see what we can do. It will unfortunately have to be a vote extended over a period of time longer than a week, unfortunately. --MacTire02 15:31, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Bureaucrat access

Anrie@afwikipedia

Just shy of a month since I've been nominated. Our one and only bureaucrat has been inactive for a while now and per this message on his talk page, will be unavailable for the foreseeable future.

The recent SUL process brought to our attention that it is necessary to have an active bureaucrat for our project, so a few candidates were nominated. af:Wikipediabespreking:Burokraat lists more than the ones I will be posting here myself, but one is not a valid nomination (our own policy states that a user needs to be an admin before he/she can be promoted to bureaucrat) and two others concern users who are currently inactive or will soon be inactive for the foreseeable future. (Meaning, that I'll consider posting their nominations here when they are (to be) active again. They are of course welcome to post it here whenever they feel like, themselves as well.)

Thank you! Anrie 15:43, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

American Eagle@simplewikiquote

The Simple English Wikiquote only has a single bureaucrat, Coppertwig; however, the bureaucrat has already participated in the RfB, opposing it,[3] and has already stated that they will not close the RfB at all (much less actually perform the promotion).[4][5]

As this effectively becomes a "there are no local bureaucrats" situation due to Coppertwig's refusal to perform his duties, we (the SE Wikiquote community) need a steward to gauge consensus and grant the flag (if warranted). EVula // talk // // 20:47, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Correction: I did not state that I would not perform the promotion. Coppertwig(talk) 20:58, 31 January 2009 (UTC) See discussion here. A number of suggestions were made as to who would close the discussion. Coppertwig(talk) 21:01, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

This seems silly really. Coppertwig should be the one to close it. He should ignore his own personal feelings about the candidate, and act of community consensus. If he can't do that, I have to wonder what he's doing as a bureaucrat. It's what bureaucrats are supposed to do... and besides, this is not something for stewards to do. Stewards implement community decisions, they don't decide. Majorly talk 21:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Not done, please contact the local bureaucrat, who is active there, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 21:02, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

*headdesk* EVula // talk // // 21:02, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
If Coppertwig isn't going to promote someone because he voted against them, he should step down as a bcrat in my opinion. I have voted on people's requests and promoted at the same time, even if I wasn't keen on them being promoted. Majorly talk 21:04, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
The local community can also vote for his removal, if they think he does not perform his duties correctly. As long as they don't ask for his removal and he stays crat, the local community accepts his decisions, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 21:06, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
So, if a bureaucrat is a bit rogue (in refusing to do his job, specifically; this is different than, say, promoting or renaming against or without requests, which would/should be actionable by stewards), the community is just screwed in the meantime? That's a severely sub-optimal situation.
*sigh* I guess we'll have to wait until the next RfB is done (which thankfully is in a day or two) so that we'll have at least one 'crat that can do their job. EVula // talk // // 21:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
No, the community is not screwed, they can vote for his removal, if he blocks them for voting they can make a RFC or of it is very obvious ask for emergency desysop in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect. We had such a situation with the same project some time ago already, the community had plenty of time in the meantime to do something to prevent such situations in the future.
*sigh* indeed...
We will definitly not decide for the bureaucrat if there is an active local one.
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 21:19, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, as a relative newcomer to the project, I'll have to plead ignorance about there being a similar situation in the past; if that's the case, it does shore up several of my frustrations at the current situation (you're right, it should have been addressed then so we wouldn't be in the situation we're in now). EVula // talk // // 21:23, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
See q:simple:Wikiquote:Requests_for_bureaucratship/American_Eagle... But even if this here was the first incident we would not decide that for the local crat here or perform his duties. I do not even see a dire need for any local bureaucrat on this project, but that is another story. Thanks for Your understanding. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 21:32, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Majorly, if you or anyone else finds my performance as a bureaucrat to be problematic, please discuss it with me on my user talk page on that project. Coppertwig(talk) 21:43, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I think it is this page fr:Wikipédia:Prise de décision/Administrateur/Suspension et retrait du statut en cas d'inactivité prolongée ou de démission which states (as I understand the machine translation) that admins and 'crats with no activity can be suspended after 6 months, and for the next year can ask for automatic restoration, but after than the suspension is permanent. Is that correct? If so then this would be the first part of that, the 6 month suspension? ++Lar: t/c 06:46, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
The translation is correct. Admins and bureaucrats inactive for 6 month are suspended but were they to come back within 1 yr, they could ask for the restoration of their status. (:Julien:) 10:03, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, one vote supporting removal is really not enough (and there even was one oppose) and there is no real reason given, which is why they might have taken that as disruption and might have blocked You for that. I don't see any reason for removing their rights atm. and suggest to You to email them for an unblock, in which You can explain Your reasoning and that You did not mean to disrupt the project but to express Your concerns (if that was so). I really wish You can lay the personal differeces aside and work constructively on these projects.
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 02:11, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't see a deleted request here [10] but I see one oppose and one support, and no reason given. --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 02:27, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
P.S. Since You said they are doing vandalism You should have proven that or they might take be an insult only. P.P.S. The world is not full of evil people and You are the only odd one out, You can assume that the people working in the projects do it for the benefit of them, this is called AGF, since I try to do that with You, try also to do that with others, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 02:37, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Wow, it's really nice to found that someone tries to remove your sysop rights then you even don't know about that :) That user Budelberger created some templates and two totally incorrect articles in Lithuanian wikipedia which was not useful for our project. So, I and User:Lazdynas deleted that. Surprisingly, after that without any discussions he wrote a request to remove our sysop rights http://lt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikipedijos_aptarimas:Administratoriai#R.C3.A9vocation_d.27Administrateurs . Sure, other users ignored that request as nonsense. After, we got a message from French users http://lt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naudotojo_aptarimas:Atlantas/Archyvas2#information_about_User:Budelberger . So, he was blocked because of trolling. The same story in guarani ([11]). And now, after 3 months I found this request accidentally. Hugo.arg 08:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Temporary permissions (rejected and expired requests only)

Marbot@pdcwiki

I request sysop access.

  • Language Code: pdc
  • List of local sysops: pdc:Special:Listadmins
  • List of local bureaucrats: pdc:Special:Listusers/bureaucrat
  • Local Request Link: not available
  • Local User Page: pdc:Benutzer:Marbot
  • Reason: There is only one local admin, who's last edit was on June 11, 2008 (only 43 edits this year so far). In general this wiki lacks the administrative infrastructure (local requests pages, standard procedures, etc.) established in a lot of wikis, which I would like to implement. In addition there is a backlog on speedydeletions.

Thank you for your consideration. -- Marbot 16:02, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

I second this but feel involved to change his rights. There's a lot of administrative work to do, but no active sysop. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:06, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps a temporary adminship to allow (re)growth of an active community large enough to select/confirm as permanent? Would our normal 3 months be sufficient? ++Lar: t/c 19:50, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Sysopship Request प्रचालक नामनिर्देशन

नमस्कार:। मम नाम: माहितगार।इदम् मम प्रचालक नामनिर्देशन विनंती अस्ति। Myself(sa:User:Mahitgar) wants to become sysop here at Sanskrit lanuage wikipedia.I am actively involved contribiting to support pages and sysop support to Marathi and Hindi Languge wiktionaries,I have actively and substantialy contributed in development of main pages of mr:wiktionary,mr:wikibooks,mr:wikiquote,mr main page at commons and mr main page at mediawiki also considerably contributed to translation to en to mr at beta wiki.

I would like to provide first level support to further development and adding utiity value to users at Sanskrit language wikipedia's main page, wants to help evolve a policy consensus about further development of sa wikipedia, and wants to support first level help pages structure which is stll missing at sa wikipedia.Kindly approve my request for sysopship at meta itself since sa wikipedia still does not have enough active membership to suppor my nomination in an open poll Sysop Nomination Poll Request Please, still sa wikipedia does not have an active communilty since it is language of importance but very old classical language requires special linguistic skill level hence this is a direct sysopship request Mahitgar 16:58, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello, there is no local voting, and You have nearly no contributions there, since sysopship is not required for contributing and the activity of any community is very low, I would say atm the sysopship is not necessary, but please feel free to explain: Why exactly would You need sysopship?
If You want to translate the interface, this should be only done at betawiki:, You would be very welcomed there if You are interested in helping us (see betawiki:Translating:How to start).
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:13, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your query,I need sysopship to improve & reorganise main page and main page is locked for editing by previous sysops.Main page has lot of red links taking users to wrong namespaces.Secondly I want to add rest of Indian language wikipedia interwiki linking to sa wikipedia's recent changes this is very esential for easy navigation for experienced users to keep watch on sa activity.First started working on sa at betawiki then I realised sa wikipedia is in need of sysop support.I need to add some pages(Like Village pump and special a page helping on consensus for words to be used on navigation bar while want to remove news related link from navigation since no one is likely to read and maintain news related page in sanskrit.

BTW beta wiki has that I get automaticaly all navigational buttons in my own langugae whenever I log in,similler facility I would be looking for sa wikipedia meaning there by whenever any Indic language wikipedian logs in at sa should be able to navigate in their own language.

Thanks and regards Mahitgar 04:17, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the answer, Mahitgar, also it is great to see that You are already doing a great work at betawiki.
I would suggest the following: try to contact the local crat via e-mail, he has specified one at en.wiki [12]. If he does not respond and if there are no oposes on the requestpage, I would suggest a temporary period for 1 month as a start. Please note that this is technically the same, You just come back shortly before the status expires to prolong it.
What do You think? Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 05:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Ok I will give try as you say thanks and regards Mahitgar 13:33, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Ok, please inform us here if he does not respond (lets give him about one week~), best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:51, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Progress report? Hello, any response from the bureaucrat, if not please let us know. If nothing further is heard this request will close in about a week from now, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:05, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

I suppose and request you can grant me a sysopship now thanks and regards Mahitgar 07:49, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, according to Steward_handbook#Temporary_rights it was not totally wrong to promote him. 12 months was too much, that's true, but there was no local sysop, and he wants to help out. That this is not backed by the community was not evident. … I'd recommend him to start a voting on b:ms (I'll leave a message on his user talk page). If he fails I'd remove his rights. Hi Stewards. I need temporary access on the Manx Wikipedia for strictly 2 days. The sole sysop over there is having major problems with userboxes & has discovered that there are problems with the css files in Mediawiki space. He's asked for my assistance on my gawiki talkpage (sorry - it's in a mix of Irish and Manx :/ ). It's one of those tweak-and-try jobs, and having sysop over there would allow me to fix it without having to ask him for every little change. I've been sysop over there a few times before for similar work. Thank you so much! Alison 15:56, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Currently working on categorizing templates (some of which I had locked to prevent vandalism but now find myself unable to correctly categorise due to loss of sysop status), tidying up the project and providing licence information for images. I need to be able to use the MediaWiki space for other work relating to css files etc. Thanks in advance, MacTire02 18:28, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

(See my request above. MacTire02 is the editor asking for my help). Can I just say that this guy has been doing phenomenal work on gvwiki and has, almost single-handedly, brought it back from the brink. I'd personally like to see him made sysop indefinitely, but in the meantime have to strongly endorse this request :) - Alison 18:40, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Done, expires 16-01-2009, please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only and to upload images preferably to commons:. Please feel free to hold a local voting if the community grows or come back few days before the status expires to prolong it, thanks for Your work, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 01:42, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the support Alison, and thanks for granting my request Spacebirdy. --MacTire02 08:15, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Meno25@ar wikinews

I request temporary sysop access.

  • Language Code: ar
  • List of local sysops: n:ar:Special:Listadmins
  • List of local bureaucrats: n:ar:Special:Listusers/bureaucrat
  • Local Request Link: n:ar:ويكي الأخبار:إداريون
  • Local User Page: n:ar:User:Meno25
  • Preferred duration and reason: 6 months. I have already temp access on this wiki expiring today. I would like to request to extend it for another 6 months. I still need admin tools to be able to delete nonsense pages occasionally created by anons until a community emerges. The wiki has no community and 2 sysops. The last edit of one of them was on 29 February 2008 while that of the other was on 23 December 2005. Both of them are gone. I am already a bureaucrat on the Arabic Wikipedia as well as a sysop on English Wikipedia. flags

Thank you. Meno25 00:47, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello, we typically do not give permanent sysop rights on small projects. However, we do give temporary adminship. Would you object to 6 months of temporary adminship? Once the 6 months are up can apply here again for another temporary term, or, if your community has grown significantly, hold another vote.--Shanel 19:57, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you, Shanel. Temporary access is ok for me. Can we have temporary sysop access for the project founder Numulunj pilgae (ex-temporary sysop) proposed for voting recently together with me or we have to apply for him separately? Thank you --Khazar II 21:15, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Miscellaneous requests

NonvocalScream@simple wikipedia

Requesting importers permission. It is a small community, not exactly sure how many participants are needed in the discussion. Discussion is still in progress. Thank you! NonvocalScream 23:51, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, please grant the community at least one week to respond to Your request, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 00:04, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
And, please note that you have to file a bug on bugzilla to get source wikis for import enabled. (I read your request as being for transwiki import rights, not for XML file import, right?) --Thogo (talk) 00:05, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Either / or (XML or souce/dest (transwiki)). Transwiki import is preferred, should I file a big request now, or wait a week? NonvocalScream 00:11, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Uhm, no he has not, if he has import he can import xml files from anywhere, if he wants transwiki, he needs sysop rights and file a bugzilla request to specify the wiki where he can import from directly. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 00:13, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
The XML import will work then. In this manner, I can export pages from a WMF Wiki into Simple. I'll visit back on 8 Jan (unless I see or have questions). Thanks! NonvocalScream 00:16, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Please wait, the !voting only has two supports on SEWP; I think the conversation has moved on, no consensus at the moment. Microchip08 (Simple English editor, not a steward!) 16:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Hello, this requst is on hold until 8., there is a local voting, where You can express Your concerns [13], thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 16:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Howdy. It being 8 Jan, any updates to this request? Very best, NonvocalScream 03:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, please grant the community at least one week to respond to Your requests, also please keep in mind that as b:simple:special:listadmins shows that none of You are admins but importing often requires to delete something, You might want to run for sysopship too.
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 18:22, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Oke, We will wait until 12 January. I will asked Microchip if he wants to run for admin also. Abigor talk 18:31, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
I will run for adminship after I get the 500 required edits :-). Microchip08 14:29, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

The following discussion is closed.
If you have sysop rights, you can import articles from other Wikimedia projects. But you have to file a bug to enable source wikis for your wiki. --Thogo (talk) 11:35, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
This is confusing: Steward_requests/Bot_status#GhalyBot.40arzwikipedia, now who is requesting import and do You even need the import flag itself or do You mean transwiki, to import from a given wiki? Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 00:15, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Sorry for the confusion ,As long as importing articles is ossible , I don't mind if it is in my account or the bot account as long as I can import articles from other projects, I will file the bugzilla request, Many thanks.--Ghaly 08:03, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Allright, I am closing this section then, if You need help with the bugzilla request let me know (please note that they might ask for a community consens and do need to know which projects should be enabled to import from), best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 19:14, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
