Presenting Community Engagement Insights survey report: Tuesday, October 10, 1600 UTC

Hi Harej,
I am reaching out to you because you signed up to receive updates about the Global Wikimedia survey.[1]

We will be hosting a public event online to present the data, a few examples on how teams will be using it for annual planning, and what are next steps for this project. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 10, at 9:00 am PST (1600 UTC), and the presentation will be in English. You can watch the livestream here, and ask question via IRC on #wikimedia-office.

If you are unable attend, you can also find the report on meta, and watch the recording of the event at a later time.

We hope to have you join us online! -- María Cruz 23:29, 2 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Central notice adminship

Hi, the Foundation implemented a new inactivity policy for Central Notice Administrators, which says that CN admins who didn't use their rights in the past year should get them removed for security reasons. I therefore removed them from your account. You can request them again if you need them again. Best regards --MF-W 10:32, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

bio edit request

to substitute [[meta:Wikimedia District of Columbia|]] for [[Wikimedia District of Columbia]] so as to not break transclusions, for example on Wikidata. Cheers! Arlo Barnes (talk) 04:04, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Arlo Barnes, feel free to make simple edits like that, though I am not sure what you mean. When I click "edit" on my user page I see [[Wikimedia District of Columbia]] without the wiki prefix. harej (talk) 18:19, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
It is not possible for a user page to be edited by an account other than the one it belongs to (or presumably by admins), for vandalism-avoidance reasons. Yes, it is currently without the prefix, which means that each project that transcludes the pages assumes it is a 'local' link; so using WD as an example, it would try to go to wikidata.org/wiki/Wikimedia District of Columbia, which would be a broken link since the main (prefixless) namespace is only for Q-numbers. Adding the prefix allows it to be a transwiki link instead. Arlo Barnes (talk) 22:01, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Arlo Barnes, that makes sense. I've made the requested edit. harej (talk) 22:20, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

IA-bot @ et-wiki

aloha, can your bot "run once" and save results to soemewhere and then sort missing pages by domen and then split .ee domain result for analyzing? many websites have changed software so, maybe we can fix URL-s instead redirecting them to IA? best :) Suwa (talk) 10:21, 18 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Suwa, while fixing URLs is always a great idea, I strongly recommend adding archival URLs to dead links first. Then, you can work through the backlogs of tagged dead links and uses of archival URLs and find suitable replacement links. Dead links are a disservice to readers, and there are too many (usually on the scale of thousands) to work through them all manually. But I think it makes good sense to fix links once they have been identified as broken. harej (talk) 20:52, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question about MassMessage

Hi, Harej! I've seen a message on Spanish Wikisource (s:es:User_talk:Christian Giovanny Toro Vallejo##Notificación_de_traducción:_InternetArchiveBot/Problem) and I'm trying to understand how this message delivery works. The user account was created on 2014 and has 0 editions all around de WMF projects (Special:CentralAuth/Christian_Giovanny_Toro_Vallejo). But he continues to receive messages about the translators groups. In the hidden text I can see that you sent the message, thorug the User:MediaWiki message delivery (time ago they were other users: Samuele2002, Eihel, Whatamidoing (WMF), Path slopu, etc.), and it contains a link for which I have no access: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:NotifyTranslators I suppose the user is in this list or in another list, but I find it strange because if he asked to be in a list and has no editions.... then how did he asked for it? In es.source he has no deleted edit. Or is it a checkbox in Mypreferences? Thanks for your time and best regards! -Aleator (talk) 23:40, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
