This week we closed out #AAPIHeritageMonth by focusing on community. For the second year in a row, our API and Filipino RIGs hosted a pop-up market on our LAX campus with over 20 local Asian and Pacific Islander businesses, a board game zone, a DJ, an auction for charity, and a themed dinner featuring a wide variety of Asian and Pacific Islander dishes!

Last week VALORANT launched the Holomoku skinline in collaboration with our API Rioter Inclusion Group (RIG) to celebrate #AAPIHeritageMonth. Together, the team landed on the name Holomoku to represent the Polynesian culture that the skins are inspired by. The talented artists and devs who brought the vision to life saw this as an opportunity to not only represent and depict parts of their culture, but also the rich and diverse backgrounds of players around the world.

"Growing up in a close-knit community where sharing experiences shaped our lives, I carried that same spirit into my work at Riot. Being part of the AAPI community and participating in events like Ramadan celebrations have brought me closer to people with similar backgrounds. The connections I’ve built have expanded my social circle and created cherished memories, from Ramadan festivals and late-night food adventures to night markets and volleyball games. These moments reminded me of home and made me feel deeply connected and appreciated within the Riot and AAPI communities. The culture at Riot is so amazing, I feel deeply appreciated and respected by fellow colleagues at a place where differences are recognized and celebrated." #AAPIHeritageMonth

In addition to making our own games, we also back smaller studios to help them bring their visions to life. One studio we are proud to support through our Underrepresented Founders Program is Wabisabi Games. Their first game RKGK is available now on Steam!

RKGK is now available on Steam! This platforming adventure is the first title from Wabisabi Games, an indie studio founded in Mexico City. In 2020, Wabisabi Games received initial backing from Riot Games’ Underrepresented Founders Program, which invests in founders from underrepresented communities to help those creators, storytellers, and artists create games and experiences for players of all backgrounds.
