Android Push Notifications

Push notifications are a great way to keep up with the activity on your blog(s). Find out when someone likes or reblogs one of your posts, as well as when someone starts following you, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

To decide which notifications you’d like to receive:

  1. Open Tumblr on your device.
  2. Tap the human icon.
  3. Tap the gear icon.
  4. Tap “Account settings.”
  5. Tap “Notifications.”
  6. From this screen, you can enable or disable various notification types, or tap “Fine-tune these notifications” for each of your blogs, primary or secondary. If you only want to receive notifications from Tumblrs you follow, tap “Only people I follow.”

To receive push notifications for new posts on a specific blog:

Note: For group blogs, you can only receive notifications if you’re an admin.

To receive push notifications for notes on a specific post from someone else’s blog:

To mute notifications for an individual post on your own blog:

If you’ve posted something popular and are receiving too many notifications about one particular post, you can mute just those notifications. There are a few ways to do this:

Note that you’ll still always see every post activity line item on your dashboard and in the activity section, even if you turn off or mute push notifications.

To disable push notifications on all your devices:

  1. Open Tumblr on your device.
  2. Tap the human icon.
  3. Tap the gear icon.
  4. Tap “Account settings.”
  5. Tap “Notifications.”
  6. Switch the Notifications toggles from On to Off for each type of notification.

To turn off push notifications on a specific Android device

Simply hide Tumblr notifications in your device settings:

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Tap “Apps.”
  3. Tap “Tumblr.”
  4. Tap “Notifications.”
  5. Uncheck the “Show Notifications” box.
