    Microsoft Circular Economy Lead

As Microsoft remains committed to sustainability as a core priority, I'm proud of the progress we made in the past year to advance a circular economy and achieve zero waste by 2030.   Across our operations, products, and packaging, we focused on preventing waste and reusing materials. Because of this, we were able to achieve the following: 👩💻 Reuse and recycle 89.4 percent of servers and components across all cloud hardware 🛠 Divert more than 18,537 metric tons of waste from landfills or incinerators across our owned datacenters and campuses 📦Reduce single-use plastics in our Microsoft product packaging to 2.7 percent   Our sustainability journey isn't just about highlighting progress, it's also about surfacing global challenges so that we can begin to build a path forward with others. I'm grateful and proud to work at Microsoft where, in partnership with many others, we are building systems that support people and planet.   In our latest report, you can find more details on our circularity program: https://lnkd.in/gxXrDzm3   #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #MSSustainability #MSFTAdvocate

    Water Lead at Microsoft

We all depend on water to survive and as such we recognize that Microsoft has a responsibility to protect freshwater resources in high stress regions where we operate across the globe. Microsoft believes those who can do more, should. And this applies to all of our sustainability goals, including water. And that is why in 2020 Microsoft set an ambitious goal to be Water Positive by 2030. Since then, we have been working diligently to ensure we are making progress against our 5 key pillars: reduce, replenish, increase access, innovate, and advocate.   Today, I am excited to share some FY23 highlights from the water section of Microsoft's Environmental Sustainability report: ➡ We achieved our water access target and have provided more than 1.5 million people with access to clean water and sanitation services. ➡We doubled our water replenishment portfolio, increasing it to 49 projects, which are estimated to provide more than 25 million m3 in volumetric benefit over the lifetime of these projects (enough to fill about 10,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools). ➡We are finding ways to accelerate progress further and faster using AI, including a partnership with FIDO Tech to reduce water loss from leaks in water distribution networks in London (England), Querétaro (Mexico), and Phoenix, Arizona (United States). ➡We are reducing our water use intensity and are on track to achieve our 40% target across Microsoft's datacenter operations by 2030. We have also announced that new AI datacenters that are designed and optimized to support AI workloads will consume zero water for cooling. ➡We have made a $25 million anchor investment in WaterEquity's Climate & Water Resilience Fund, which will focus exclusively on scaling climate-resilient water and sanitation infrastructure in the Global South. ➡We published a white paper on replenishment to provide more clarity and transparency on our target and strategy and have integrated environmental justice into our program, an ongoing journey.    ✳ If you are curious to learn more about our water positive goal and other sustainability goals, check out the report!  https://lnkd.in/eU_9s9Dp #MSSustainability #MSFTAdvocate

Director of Biomimicry and Advanced Ecosystems @ Microsoft | Innovating Nature Positive Technology

As part of Microsoft’s commitment to sustainability, we are constantly learning and evolving our practices. This past year, we've made meaningful progress in integrating ecological considerations into our datacenter operations, but there is still much work to be done. Before embarking on any new development, our teams conduct detailed ecological assessments to protect and preserve local biodiversity. These assessments inform our sustainable construction and operational practices, ensuring we not only coexist with nature but also actively contribute to its resilience. A key project that embodies our commitment is located near Middenmeer, in the North Holland region of The Netherlands. Here, in collaboration with the local community, we are not just building a datacenter but are also working to restore and enhance the local ecosystem. This project includes soil remediation and introducing diverse plant species to support a wide range of wildlife throughout the year. While we are proud of these steps, we acknowledge that they are just part of a longer journey. Our design strategies, which include green roofs, native landscaping, and sustainable water management, are steps towards reducing our ecological footprint and enhancing local habitats. At Microsoft, we believe that technology can and should be a force for good in the world. We are committed to learning from each project and improving our practices to ensure that our growth is sustainable for the communities we serve and the planet. I invite you to learn more about our ongoing efforts and the challenges we face in our 2024 Environmental Sustainability Report. https://lnkd.in/d5V7bGXz #MSSustainability #MSFTAdvocate #Biomimicry #Biodiversity #EcologicalRestoration
