Many and different are the topics to tackle when dealing with wearing devices (not only monitors), and for sure comfort has a high priority among them all , as discomfort can deter regular use, especially during physical activities and/or prolonged wear. Comfort depends on many aspects such as device material, shape, volume, proportions, weight, transpiration, softness, elasticity and many more. Also noises and vibrations can cause discomfort and must be designed carefully. As i said, thought, even if comfort is probably one of the most important characteristic to keep in mind, it is definitely not the only one

Another consideration is the visibility and discretion of the health monitor. Some users may feel self-conscious about wearing a noticeable device, especially in social or professional settings. Finding a balance between a device that is discreet yet still functional is important to encourage consistent wear and adherence to monitoring routines. Additionally, ensuring that the device is easy to clean and maintain can contribute to overall comfort. And hygiene, especially after intense workouts or exposure to elements like sweat and dirt.

Having used wearables previously, I've found that the primary issue is the uncertainty of the accuracy of the recorded vitals. Additionally, each company advertises their products as both durable and effective, which only adds to the confusion for consumers trying to make a purchase. Therefore, it's beneficial to not only consider user feedback and reviews but also to seek advice from physicians and nurses who encounter patients with wearable monitors. They can offer valuable insights into the most reliable brands and types of wearables based on accuracy and durability.

If the monitor is for your own use, do your homework first and only spend the money on the features that you need or will use. Keep in mind that the cheap monitors are probably cheap for a reason. I have a Garmin watch and the quality of the data, ease of use, comfort, and long battery life are well worth the extra expense for all of my activities. But if GPS tracking isn't needed, don't pay the extra cost. If the monitors are for use on patients - I've done studies using fitness trackers on cancer patients - then ease of use, long battery life, and data transfer are VERY important. The opportunity to help improve outcomes using remote monitoring is outstanding, but human beings are finicky users of technology. Easy is better.

In my experience, wearing a CGM (constant glucose monitor) gives us the best information when we are wearing it during all sorts of activities! Not only can the device show us our blood sugar fluctuations from the food we ingest, but it shows us how daily stressors and sleep affects our blood sugar. When a client can actually see how fighting with a spouse can spike their blood sugar, or not getting a good night's sleep can spike the blood sugar, or how a walk after dinner can lower the post prandial blood sugar spike, this leads to the most amazing lifestyle changes that could be imagined!
