At Breakthrough Energy, an organisation founded by Bill Gates in 2015, Ann Mettler works with European partners to accelerate clean-tech innovation in the pursuit of climate neutrality and net-zero emissions. She previously served as director-general at the European Commission, where she ran the internal strategy department, reporting directly to the president. An entrepreneur at heart, Ms Mettler set up her own think-tank, which she ran for more than a decade. She began her career at the World Economic Forum, where she led the Europe department.

María Mendiluce
Chief executive, We Mean Business Coalition
María Mendiluce is chief executive officer of the We Mean Business Coalition, a group of seven non-profit organisations catalysing business and policy action to halve emissions by 2030 and accelerate an inclusive transition to a net-zero economy. Ms Mendiluce has 25 years’ experience in sustainable development, energy and climate action. She sits on the executive board of the Science Based Targets initiative, is a founding board member of Mission Possible Partnership, and co-founded the SME Climate Hub, which is building a one-stop-shop for smaller companies for their net-zero commitments. Ms Mendiluce was previously managing director at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
