Shaitani Rasmein (transl. Satanic Rituals)(international title:Evil affairs) is an Indian Hindi-language series starring Naqiyah Haji, Vibhav Roy and Shefali Jariwala. It premiered on 15 January 2024 on Star Bharat and is digitally available on Disney+ Hotstar. It is a romance thriller with a wedding theme, as well as supernatural elements.

Plot

Nikki, an orphan city girl marries her prince charming Piyush and arrives at Bhurangarh. Nikki's-in-laws worship the satanic force Malik and make her perform Shaitani Rasmein, there she ends up challenging the evil entity. She performs rituals such as sacrificing a goat and dipping it in Coldwater, Taking a pot from the well. In Goa, Nikki's governess Anita is brutally killed after she tries contacting Nikki but in vain. Nikki refuses at first but keeps fulfilling the evil rituals. Veronica (Nikki's childhood friend) arrives at Bhurangarh to search for her where she is surprised by the ongoing rituals. In greed, Veronica decides to separate Piyush and Nikki but ends up killed by Kapalika, she also kills Arohi's unborn child.

To protect the family, Nikki continues doing rituals empowering Maalik. After Nikki performs the engraving ritual, Maalik becomes powerful, falls for Nikki, and declares her the Chosen One, and declares that Nikki will be doing all 13 Shaitani Rasmein on every new moon night to regain all his body parts which makes Kapalika jealous as she loved Maalik for a long time. Meanwhile, Arohi gets her child back and Arohi's mother tells Nikki that Maalik is an evil force and that Arohi's behavior had also changed after her marriage. Kapalika tells the family members to make the Shaitani Bhog for Maalik and sends it with a maid, Rachna as she was born in Shatbeeja Nakshatra due to which she can go and offer the Bhog to Maalik. Nikki follows Rachna as she goes to meet Maalik. Kapalika ambushes Nikki but Nikki pushes her away with divine energy. Rachna goes missing due to which Maalik gets angry and punishes the villagers. soon, Rachna is found and is brought by Saudamini, a researcher. Saudamini wants to know more about Maalik wants to meet him and wishes to rule Bhurangarh. Saudamini is forced to stay in Bhurangarh as she knows about Maalik. Nikki finds a book about Maalik named Maalik Puraan where Maalik's stories have been written. She tries to open it but in vain

Nikki and Piyush visit a sage who tells them about Bhurangarh's history with Maalik. It is revealed that a long time ago, Piyush's ancestor, Vishwajeet Singh Gehlot was traveling to the temple of his family deity. He falls into a pit where he discovers a treasure that disappears. Kapalika arrives and tells him that the treasure can be his only if he worships Maalik and his wife will have to do the Shaitani Rasmein. Vishwajeet and his family refuse to worship Maalik so Maalik comes and kills off his daughter. After this incident, They prepare a statue of Maalik and start worshipping him.

Kapalika wants to know about Nikki and goes to Kaalmukhi, an astrologer, and makes her horoscope. She shockingly discovers that Nikki is also born in Shatbeeja Nakshatra and born with divine energy. Kapalika goes into Nikki's past and shockingly discovers that a goddess Baaldevi left Nikki in the orphanage and tells Kapalika that she will bring an end to her and Maalik's atrocities. Kaalmukhi goes to Maalik to tell about Nikki but Kapalika kills him off. Nikki goes to a deserted place and finds a Trident and Goddess Statue and takes it back to the palace. Nikki starts chanting Hanuman Chalisa and Kapalika arrives but Nikki attacks her. Nikki stabs herself and Kapalika and gets injured. Kapalika recognizes Nikki as Swarnaprabha and goes to Maalik. Maalik gets to know about Nikki's birth secret and punishes Kapalika by making her into a statue.

Nikki recovers and convinces the entire family to leave Bhurangarh. However, Maalik stops them and terrorizes them, forcing Nikki to go and summon a Daayan called Chaaya who is revealed to be Maalik's elder sister who was captured by Maalik. Chaaya comes to Bhurangarh and tortures the Gehlot family and sends Nikki to steal Daakini's heart for Maalik's Shaitani Rasmein which Nikki succeeds in doing. Soon Chaaya discovers Nikki has a protective shield implanted by Baaldevi and forces Nikki to commit a sin which removes the protective shield and Chaaya drinks Nikki's blood to become more powerful. Nikki seeks Chaaya's twin sister, Maya Daayan help to kill Chaaya which she eventually succeeds in doing. Nikki starts pretending to be still possessed by Maya daayan and attempts to kill Maalik with the help of her family under the pretext of performing the second ritual of the 13 Shaitani Rasmein. On the day of the ritual, Nikki bombs the Old Palace trying to kill off Maalik. She fails and Maalik punishes all of them by sending Kichkandi who possesses Nikki and punishes the Gehlot family. Kichkandi steals Aarohi's baby but Piyush brings Nikki and the baby back. But the baby turns out to be Shaitan's baby who torments the family but Nikki returns the baby back to Kichkandi where the Gehlot family learns Nikki's connection to Baaldevi. Nikki goes back to the past with Baaldevi's help to find Maalik's weakness and meets Piyush's previous birth Kadam who is sent by Maalik to capture Swarnaprabha.

Production

Release

Shefali Jariwala, Vibhav Roy and Naqiyah Haji were signed as the leads. The first promo was released in December 2023.

Development

The series was announced by Triangle Film Company on Star Bharat. It is a live action adaptation of Drishyam Comics series "Devil's Play" from the app Pratilipi Comics.

Filming

Principal photography for the show began in December 2023.
