Lazarus Chisela is a Zambian politician and former Member of Parliament.[1][2] He has also worked as a lecturer at the University of Zambia and a political analyst for the BBC. He was awarded the Zambia Political Analyst of the Year award in 2012. He was also nominated for the African Young Leader of the Year award in 2015.[3][4] He is the president of Zambia United for Sustainable Development (ZUSD).[5][6]

Early life[edit]

Chisela was born on November 15, 1971, in Chipata, Zambia. He grew up in a rural area and was raised by his parents, who were farmers.[7][8]

Education[edit]

Chisela attended primary school at Chipata Primary School and secondary school at Chipata Secondary School. He then went on to study at the University of Zambia, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science. He later earned a master's degree in international relations from the University of Pretoria.[3]

Political career[edit]

Chisela began his political career in 2001, when he was elected as a counselor for the Chipata Municipal Council. He later became the mayor of Chipata and then a Member of Parliament for the Chipata Central constituency. He served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2020.[3][5]

Personal life[edit]

Chisela is married and has two children. He is a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.[2]

Allegations[edit]

Chisela has faced allegations of corruption and embezzlement of funds meant for constituency development, which he has denied.[9][2]
