Emblem of Hamas

The emblem of Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist militant organization that rules the Gaza Strip, features Islamic and militaristic motifs.

Features of political wing emblem

The emblem shows two crossed swords in front of the central building (Dome of the Rock) of the Al-Aqsa (Arabic: الأقصى) mosque complex, in Jerusalem (Arabic: الأقصى, romanizedAl-Quds). The mosque is framed by two Palestinian flags that feature the two statements that comprise the Shahada: "There is no god but God" (right flag) and "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah" (left flag).[1]

Above Al Aqsa is a map of Palestine, matching the borders of Mandatory Palestine. Immediately below the Dome it reads "Palestine" and below that in the green banner: "Islamic Resistance Movement – Hamas".[2]
