Question from Hasenmohemmod32 on Wikipedia:CONFIRM (01:03, 15 June 2024)

How can I make real money for these invast --Hasenmohemmod32 (talk) 01:03, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 May 4#Natural history

Hi Qwerfjkl! Looking at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 May 4#Natural history, I am currently reading consensus to keep the category. I see that you closed an earlier, related nomination—Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 April 11—for other members of the tree with consensus to delete the categories, and Fayenatic london (who supported deletion in both discussions) called for the previous discussion to be vacated if the result of the current discussion is keep. Thoughts? I think the best way forward is to close the current discussion as keep and restore the other categories, but I am open to other suggestions. HouseBlaster (talk · he/they) 19:52, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HouseBlaster, sorry for the delayed response. I'm not entirely convinced by the arguments opposing; I don't think they fully really address the nominator's claims. I think I would consider relisting for more discussion. (Though overall there's still probably stronger consensus for keeping.) This response is a bit hasty, so I'll try to look at it more later today. — Qwerfjkltalk 09:53, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reading this again, I have a few more thoughts: The arguments don't seem applicable to all of the categories; many of them have only a few members and so appear more OVERLAPCAT as the nom said. Some of the arguments are also pretty weak (e.g. that these categories are about history, which does not at all reflect their contents). — Qwerfjkltalk 20:40, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Good citizen of india , secular (04:24, 16 June 2024)

Unable to edit somethings by Visual editor or the second editor , please tell --Good citizen of india , secular (talk) 04:24, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good citizen of india , what exactly are the problems you encounter? — Qwerfjkltalk 09:46, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MassRFD

I tried renominating google.bb and google.co.bb as they were on Category:RfD errors for a month, however it identified them as non-redirects, so I had to revert the edits so I could renominate. Any step for improving this thing? --MikutoH talk! 00:57, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MikutoH, not sure what to do here - I think I would be beyond the scope of the script to recognise what the redirect is supposed to look like. It's not going to improve the situation if it just tags the redirect as it was normal, because then it would be double tagged. — Qwerfjkltalk 09:46, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from K2N2O2W on Draft:List of missing people (20:26, 17 June 2024)

Hi, I'm new to this but I don't quite have the time to read through all the study pages. Can you help me put a table sortable by "name" "location" and "time" to a wikipedia page dedicated to missing people world wide? I have a one sentence introduction but it doesn't allow me to submit that because it has no citation. --K2N2O2W (talk) 20:26, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

K2N2O2W, you might be interested in Lists of people who disappeared and the articles linked there. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:47, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah thank you so much, yes, that's exactly what I meant K2N2O2W (talk) 14:47, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CfDlister random errors

While using the one-click close feature of CFDlister, the tool is randomly failing to add a CfDW entry to the queue. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 13:21, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

LaundryPizza03, any specific examples? Does it give an error message and fail, or fail silently? Is there anything in the console? Etc. — Qwerfjkltalk 15:37, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, it just happens randomly, as far as I can tell. It closes the CfD with a success notice, but then an error message displays about being unable to load it into CfDW. If it happens again, I will tell you the exact message. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 15:41, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One of these was Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2024_June_8#Category:Chinese-language-only_video_games, which doesn't seem to be malformed. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 15:43, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
LaundryPizza03, is it something like "The edit query returned an error. =(" or "The ajax request failed."? — Qwerfjkltalk 15:45, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that it failed to do something, but I don't remember what it was. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 15:48, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid I cant do much without the full error message (actually, I'm not sure the script will provide proper error messages). — Qwerfjkltalk 16:00, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the source code, I think it was either line 304 or line 309 that was triggered in this case, which was a "delete" closure. It is also possible that line 314 was improperly reached due to the CfD header containing a hidden comment. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 03:23, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
LaundryPizza03, oh, I think I see the problem. The nomination was for merging but you closed it as delete, so it needed manual handling. — Qwerfjkltalk 09:25, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gwgross (20:09, 21 June 2024)

Hello, glad to know you're my Wikipedia mentor! Are you able to take a look at a first draft of my first article in my sandbox? Thanks! --Gwgross (talk) 20:09, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gwgross, it looks good to me. The main thing you should focus on is finding reliable sources to demonstrate its notability - sources like the "New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission" reports are good for factual information, but not so much for determining notability. Per WP:NCORP, the sourcing requirements are particularly stringent for companies. — Qwerfjkltalk 10:34, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks, Qwerfjkl. I understand the sourcing requirements are stringent for companies. I believe Neville & Bagge is especially notable because it designed and built many NYC buildings that are now part of either a NYC Landmark District, or a Historical District on the National Register of Historic Places, or both. What better way to source those facts than with the Designation Reports from the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission or the National Archives Catalog? 68.129.242.114 (talk) 17:10, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
68.129.242.114, for the purposes of notability, something more like [https://bklynbiblio.blogspot.com/2014/12/neville-bagge-and-netherlands-apartments.html this source (which is already present in the draft) is what you want (though that source is particular is unreliable). The New Yorker source is reliable, but I cant comment on how good it is in terms of coverage because it requires an account. The book references may qualify as reliable; I can't tell. In general, the subject is notable is it has 3 references that are reliable, independant of the subject, and have significant coverage (not just a passing mention).
Good luck! — Qwerfjkltalk 17:24, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the guidance. I moved the draft to the Mainspace this afternoon. Could you take one more look at it there, please? And what happens next? Gwgross (talk) 19:08, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gwgross, it will be reviewed by a New page patroller. I have nothing more to say on the article, except that, as I've said before, the main test for an article is whether it is notable, so to give it the biggest chance of passing new page patrol, I recommend finding reliable sources, as I've said before. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:22, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:HouseBlaster submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate Qwerfjkl to be Editor of the Week for his tireless efforts behind-the-scenes, particularly at WP:CFD. In addition to closing discussions, he is the developer of User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/CFDlister—the script which makes NACs (upon which CfD relies heavily). He also created User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/massCFD, which handles multi-nomination CfDs (unlike most discussion venues multi-nominations at CfD are usually productive!). He is the operator of User:Qwerfjkl (bot), which performs functions such as notifying contributors of CS1 errors and implementing PIQA (WP:PIQA). Finally, he is a mentor through the Growth Team, where he frequently assists new users in learning the ropes. Seconded by Hey man im josh

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Question from EJT44 (21:00, 22 June 2024)

How do I make a new page? --EJT44 (talk) 21:00, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

EJT44, Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read WP:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out WP:TUTORIAL; it's a lot of fun! Happy editing! — Qwerfjkltalk 21:19, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
