Beata Maria Szydło (born Beata Kusińska, April 15, 1963 in Oświęcim) is a Polish politician. She is vice-chairman of the Law and Justice party.

Early life

She was born and raised near Brzeszcze, where her father was a miner. [1] She graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow in 1989.

Political career

She was elected mayor of Malopolska province at the age of 35. She was elected to the Sejm on September 25, 2005 getting 14447 votes in 12 Chrzanów district, candidating from the Law and Justice list.

The Law and Justice party convention of 20 June 2015 named Szydło as candidate for prime minister at the general election due in the autumn of 2015.[2]

Personal life

She is married to Edward Szydło. The couple has two sons. Tymoteusz is currently a deacon, while his younger brother, Błażej, is studying medicine.
