15 Field Ambulance (15 Fd Amb), consisting of 15(Edmonton) and 15(Calgary) Medical Company, is a Primary Reserve medical unit whose main tasks are

"To provide trained individuals and sub-units to augment 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group...and to prepare medical care during military operations throughout the world"[1]


History

15 Fd Amb began as 4 Casualty Clearing station, formed in November-December 1939 and served in England before being transferred to Sicily in 1943. During the remainder of the war, it also served throught Italy and in northwest Europe.

Upon Returning to Canada, it was redesignated 36 Casualty Clearing station, then in 1944 became 23 Medical Company. On 1 January 1976it became an independent company and in 1978 was renamed 15 Field Ambulance.[2]

Present Day

15 Fd Amb is a part of 41 Canadian Brigade Group, which consists of all Alberta Army Reserve personnel. As a Canadian Forces Primary Reserve unit, members may serve on either a full or part-time basis. Deployments are voluntary on the part of all members, and personnel continue to serve alongside Reg Force CF members.

The Edmonton unit is based at Brigadier James Curry Jefferson Bldg, and Calgary at Mewata Armouries. Currently, they are commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Roger Scott of Edmonton.[3]
