So what can I do with this image?

So is it ok to create derivative works, e.g. use Photoshop to make it look like that it's on the side of a mug? Like here: Image:Wikipedia mug.jpg

What kind of use is permitted by the copyright holder and what isn't?

Missing accents

Based on a discussion at en:Talk:Wikipedia. If you compare this image with the logo used on the en.wp main page, there are differences:

I've (independently) noticed that too. All Wikipedia logos except am, ar, de, fa, lt, nn, and sv use Й and Ώ. Also ro has Ă instead of Й. --PuzzletChung 14:58, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Version without characters

Compression

{{editprotected}} I was able to losslessly compress this image even further, using a combination of PNGOUT, AdvanceCOMP, and DeflOpt. The resulting file is 277362 bytes (~270kb) compared to the current version's 294561 (~288kb). Given the widespread use of this image, I think the extra reduction is warranted.
