- Costume Entry Title: Winnie the Pooh
- Costume Description: This is a human redesign of Winnie the Pooh, based off of 1890′s women cycling/athletic garments. The costume is made out of wool, linen, and cotton. The purse, shoes, and base for the hat were the only things purchased. This costume includes hand embroidery, baby yoda fabric for lining, and my first attempt at a Victorian updo hairstyle!
- Bio: I am a United States/New Jersey based cosplayer since 2008. I adore late Victorian fashion too! In quarantine, it has been a delight diving into making my own garments based off them. As someone who has put together over 200 costumes, it is a dream come true to blend a childhood favorite/comfort with something that has inspired me as an adult!
Kensadi Cosplay
Cosplay: Edgar Markov
Costume Description: Character is from Magic the Gathering and is from the gothic plane of Innistrad which is rife with terrors, only some of which happen to be vampires. This cosplay took me roughly 8 months. It's difficult to really figure out how many hours because I worked on it off and on. 95% of the armor is EVA foam of varying thicknesses. The gauntlets are made of worbla's black art and is backed by worbla's fine art. The sword has a wooden ruler and foamboard as the base and is wrapped in worbla's black art. The chest piece is a heavily modified pattern by Cyreah Cosplay and the gauntlet pattern is by Guyton Armor. The rest I patterned myself. The skirt is made of a red velveteen. The cape is fully lined and made of an jacquard upholstery fabric remnant.
I'm from the US and I have been cosplaying for seven years now. Most of my cosplays are from Magic the Gathering. The artwork inspires me like no other franchise.
This is our Comic - Con At Home 2020 Masqurade entry. Enjoy!
Comic Con Masquerade Contest: Shelby Spillers and Arron Bowman
Costume Name: Punk Gyarados and Mega Gyarados
Costume Description:
Gyarados:
References and Renderings
There were not a lot of male human Gyarados refences.Had to come up with the design on my ownWent for a punk look with some samurai influences due to the characters Japanese origin and character temperament. Went through a couple of versions before I decided on what I really liked.
The Vest
Over 50 hours of applique, hand sewn and hand cut. Two front Gyarados had to be resewn twice so they could match perfectly. The faces are embroidered using satin stitching. Pattern was made from scratch via drapingOuter fabric is made of crinkled chiffon, it was chosen to mimic scales and to represent the blue of the GyaradosWent for a punk/biker look for intimidation and cool factor. Patch placement researched for accuracy.1-inch metal spikes screw-on for awesomenessHand sewn lining
The Pants
Pattern created by refencing another pair of pants that I had; However, because I wanted the refence pant to stay intact I had to make the pattern without taking the pant apart. Made from brocade, it chosen to represent scales and Gyarados yellowShiny
The Belt
Pattern from scratch Represents the tail and segments of the Gyarados Made from vinyl that is textured in some way that looks like skin or scales.Hand painted in the backChains and shells added for a more punk vibe with a little ocean flare Glow in the dark
Mega Gyarados: Since my partner was going with a biker gang/punk theme to this character idea, and I’m an evolution of that, I was trying to make a meaner version that leaned a little more post apocaliptic, which leans on trying to make this character look bright and colorful but aged from his enviornment. I am going to break this down piece by piece sInce there is a lot to put in, starting from the ground, up. The shoes were originally white when I bought them, I lightly sanded and painted blue leather paint until that color was achieved and put some brown dry brushing to age it. Working up to the pants, I flat patterned these with ridges sewn in. it also has a front with a lace up crotch and a hidden zipper. The chaps were a lot of work, and while working on them when I was bulding this, they traveled with me to Hawaii, while I was trying to hand-sew on the custom made red bias tape. They have duck canvas on the front and a lovely lining on the other side, which cant be seen in the video. The tank top underneath the jacket started white, and we dyed it to that color. I also put rips and tears to tell a story of different pokemon I picked a fight with. There’s lightning strikes, slash marks, and grass stains from supposedly past battles. The jacket outside is made out of vinyl and was a personal challenge to make a pattern out of for more than the fabric choice. I decided to pattern it through draping. I also only had ½ yard of blue fabric so I had to improvise quickly and not mess up to make sure I had enough to fit into the jacket. Also, to weather it, we dragged it 6 miles through dirt, mud, rivers, rocks, and we also strapped it to a car and drove around at night in an abandoned parking lot. While it did get weathered somewhat, a lot of the detailing ended up being paint. Also, with the sleeves, they ended up beins so thick due to the top stitching, that I had to hand sew the sleeve together. It is also lined with the same lining as my chaps. The fins/tail or “the wings” started from a wood rectangle. there, I added heavy duty wire and cotton to basically make a ribbed sail. The tail was a lot of sections of vinyl and foam and cotton lining (yes the same from earlier) to form it into a lobster tail looking thing. The hood is actually sewn onto the tank top. It was a flat pattern I had made with the same fabric of the chaps. The horn was made out of EVA foam, foam clay, and sanded down with a dremel. Finally, my mask was inspired by the kabuki demon masks. I wanted something intimidating that was reminiscint of the character its based off of. That is mostly made out of worbla, and the big teeth are carved pink foam covered in worbla, and the nose and smaller teeth are eva foam covered in worbla. I have real chains attatched and a red strap in the back to keep it up.
Bio: We have both been cosplaying for about 9 years and have been dating for about a year. We both met at a local cosplay meetup and have bonded from there. Now, cosplay and projects like these makes us grow in our relationship and as artists.
Costume Entry Title: Snow White
Name: Mandy Pursley, of Be the Spark Cosplay
Costume Description: Original Design
For this original costume design, I drew inspiration from both the original German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, as well as the color palette of the familiar Disney version of Snow White. I wanted to imagine Snow White on the other side of her happy ending - no longer a girl hiding in the woods, but a queen who is now full of confidence and joy!
The corseted, lined bodice is made of velvet, lace and satin, with around 1000 gold beads and pearl chains that were done by hand. There is an internal structure of canvas and steel boning for support. The collar is constructed of satin, lace and pearl trim with steel boning. The skirt was made with diamond pintuck silk dupioni, knife pleated and embellished by hand with around 900 pearls. The train features velvet and lace, gathered with cartridge pleating at the waistband.
(Purchased pieces include the wig, crown and necklace.)
Bio: I currently live in North Carolina, USA. I have been sewing for over a decade but really found my passion in cosplay! I also have a congenital limb difference and am always excited to use costumes to show that all types of bodies are beautiful and belong in cosplay. I started Be the Spark Cosplay to give a platform for disability-inclusive cosplays, both my own and those done by other talented cosplayers!

Comic-Con@Home Masquerade Entry: Nina London Cosplay
Costume Title: Arachne by Sakizou
Costume Description: Re-Creation (from manga artist Sakizou)
This costume is entirely handmade.
Starting at the top, the wig is actually three wigs cobbled together. The fifth photo in this post shows the basic process: one wig forms the bottom layer, the middle is stuffed with pillow batting, and the remaining wigs have been styled around the batting in curls and tendrils. The entire thing was sealed off with Mod Podge to endure many wearings. All trim (ribbons, etc) were hand-styled and are permanently attached.
As for the ruff, the third photo depicts the basic frame, which is made of 16 gauge wire covered in fabric, lace, and beads. The ruff stays attached to the costume through wires that run down the front of the corset.
The corset is the only piece of the costume for which I used a pre-made pattern, and I layered various pieces of lace and ribbon over the front to achieve the detailed effect.
The bustle is actually two layers. The base layer is simply there to give it that “pumpkin” shape. Once I had that in place, I took several small pieces of satin and hand-sewed them directly onto the pumpkin to make the layered, bustly look.
The train is delicate mesh, which I reinforced with water-soluble interfacing while I hand-stitched hundreds of beads into spiderweb shapes. The bottom of the skirt is also cut with pinking shears and stained with arcyllic paint thinned out with vinegar for aging.

Comic-Con Masquerade Contest: Yugiri315
Costume Name: Alucard from Castlevania - Symphony of the Night
Costume Description:
Was feeling nostalgic for some Castlevania after watching the show and was always a fan of Kojima’s highly detailed art style. Thus my Alucard cosplay was born!
Based on his video game design, the entire costume was made from scratch starting from custom pattern drafting to hand-setting each individual stud. This was my first experience 3D printing for cosplay as I needed to recreate all of Alucard’s unique buttons and clasps. He was a fun challenge and I daresay he turned out as dramatic as I wanted him.
Bio:
I have been cosplaying for about 8 years? Obsessed with small details, I tend to favor characters with high dramatic flare. I specialize in dansou cosplay, or female-to-male transformation. Forever striving to be the ideal man to bring every fangirl’s dream to life.

Comic-Con Masquerade Contest: Jewelz - House Of Kyoju
Costume Name: Xayah - The Rebel
Costume Description: Say hello to Xayah the Rebel from League of Legends! After a bloody battle using her lethal quills and protecting her people, Xayah enjoys relaxing in these enchanted woods listening for haunting melodies that transport her back to a time long-forgotten.
This costume took 4 months to complete and taught me some new important skills for pattern making. I began with a basic McCalls pattern for the hood and then altered the main shape of the hood to make it wider and accommodate the ears then drafted the pattern for the cowl to fit the design. The ears were made from EVA foam and painstakingly painted to acquire the desired look/colour from a base white fur. I patterned the dress on my body and added strips to the front for more detail. The claw feet were so fun to make using clay foam and Worbla but not as fun to walk in…. fashion over comfort am I right? The shoulder skull was created using a base pattern from Kinpatsu Cosplay that I altered to increase the size/look and have it stay on my shoulder a bit better. The feathers on the skull and foam bracers were airbrushed to add extra colour. The hood and the feather cape were both made with super soft purple and blue velours that were so comfy and easy to move around in. Faux leather and suede detailing was added to the foam bracers, belt and dress and pieces were fashioned into a hair tie to hold Xayah’s flowing red locks.
Bio: I have been creating costumes in my spare time for the past five years. I love recreating characters that have unique features, helmets or feet. This will be my third time participating in the SDCC Masquerade.
