Did you know the World Health Organization kickstart this annual campaign 20 years ago? The celebration of World Blood Donor Day traces back to Karl Landsteiner – the Nobel prize winner of Medicine in 1930 for classifying blood types 🅰️🆎🅱️🅾️. In 2004, WHO commemorated his birthday – June 14 as World Blood Donor Day. In 2023 alone, SHL Medical delivered over 49 million devices to patients living with cardiometabolic diseases, a number unmatched in the autoinjector industry. 🙌 As the pioneering leader in drug delivery devices, SHL recognizes the urgency of advancing cardiometabolic care through innovative drug-device combination products. Since 2015, we have supported the launch of 6 combination products indicated for cardiometabolic diseases. Developed for key molecules such as incretin mimetics for type 2 diabetes and obesity, as well as PCSK9 inhibitors for hyperlipidemia, our devices have aided at least 1.6 million patients on their treatment journeys. ✨ Here’s another poster presentation down the pipeline! Senior testing engineer Paolo S. Ravaynia, PhD will be taking the stage at the European Society of Biomechanics 2024 in Edinburgh between June 30 - July 3 and share his insights on an autoinjector test model. 🔬📑 With the rise of home treatment for cardiometabolic diseases, such as obesity, SHL Medical continues to innovate and develop new test models that simulate real-world situations, ensuring patient-centricity in our devices. In using a silicone-based material as an injection site for autoinjector activation, Dr. Ravaynia will showcase how the test model can support designers to develop autoinjectors that are more in line with real-world situations, as the silicone material holds a higher resemblance to the human soft tissue. Happy World Environment Day! 🌍As world leaders raise attention to the global topic of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience, SHL Medical would like to highlight the need for collective action in safeguarding the health of our ecosystems for future generations, while continuing our part in addressing this critical issue. We, at SHL Medical, are driven by our sustainability mindset in reducing greenhouse gas emissions while preserving biodiversity. This is our way to limit the impact on land degradation and desertification.   As part of our sustainability commitment, SHL’s new sites will adhere to high sustainability standards, such as having energy efficient features and using automated machinery with 100% renewable electricity. The new Zug facility is part of Tech Cluster Zug's Multi Energy Hub that uses solar power systems and relies on lake water for heating and cooling systems.   In current operations, we continue to push our sustainability agenda to ensure the lowest environmental impact. In 2023, we reduced over 2.6% of greenhouse gas emission, and we increased renewable energy usage to 12%. Our recycle rate was increased to 73.7%; and our landfill was reduced to a near zero.   SHL is dedicated to incorporating sustainability measures into every facet of our current and future operations. The obesity epidemic, or "globesity" according to World Health Organization, poses significant challenges to both patients and healthcare providers. Current progress in treating obesity and its related cardiometabolic diseases means new compounds are being developed at an exponential pace, requiring drug delivery devices to adapt to the pharma industry’s design and scalability needs.
