Finally got around to making myself a proper tumblr icon - I may make a new one later but for now I like how this one turned out!

I was originally just going to use it for my art fight profile but it turned out better than I had expected ikekskd

Figuring out the Bouchards’ vibes gradually. I know they’re from different series/universes but I love drawing them together.

Also gonna talk about them a little!

Their coats aren’t very detailed here but I plan to base them around moths. Gwen’s will be based on a Venezuelan Poodle Moth, mainly because I don’t think she’s as flashy style-wise, and a white, fur coat with a pattern on the inside is just subtle enough to get the moth intention across without feeling like too much. It just feels like her style. She’s a moth to me because every time I try to shoo moths away they literally do not notice my swatting hand and keep coming closer and I think that summarises Gwen fairly well.

Elias/Jonah started the Bouchard family as Moths thing for me, and his coat will be based on a Death’s-Head Hawkmoth, specifically a pinned one. I have some old pinned butterflies myself, and due to sun-exposure and age, have since faded to browns and beiges. The reason for this pinned moth inspiration is actually taxidermy. In Taxidermy, while every other aspect of a mount may be real, the eyes are never real, and are usually glass or something similar. The body being Elias’ vs the eyes of Jonah, essentially.

Also, for Gwen, I added a touch of green similar to Elias’ main colour as an accent colour for her, more a nod to their presumed association, whatever that may be. Another detail that adds as a nod is the moles on opposite sides.

Also as my messy notes say, Gwen’s shapes are generally rounder/softer than Elias’.

I probably should have saved this for when I actually got their final designs down, but I’m really eager to talk about them.

I have a lot of thoughts about it I’ll probably write up if I decide to do more sketches/doodles!

I do plan to do the entire season one cast at some point, but for now, I leave this Jon and Martin I did a bit ago at the tumblr doorstep

When Jon becomes a fully-fledged avatar, he also gets sharper canines — practically fangs — because you know what canines are also called? Eye Teeth.
