It's really quite easy to not enlist in the military. Even if you come from a military family. Even if you're broke. Even if you're marginalized and you have fewer opportunities. Even if it's "the only way you can get a degree." And even if you make the mistake of beginning the enlistment process, you can walk right out of MEPS as long as you haven't signed a contract. The notion that it is somehow understandable to volunteer yourself as a cog in a genocidal war machine because you have limited options is fucking heinous.
