🌍 Hong Kong has a highly developed transport network and over 90% of daily journeys are on public transport, the highest rate in the world. 🚌 Bus and rail service in Hong Kong operate with no government subsidy How does this work? What can we learn from it?? 🤔 I interviewed Adam Leishman for our Transit Unplugged podcast yesterday and he tells us. Adam leads one of the three bus major companies in Hong Kong; Bravo Holdings (HK) Limited the parent company of Citybus Limited which moves circa 1 million passengers daily across 1700 buses with 5000 colleagues. Prior to this Adam was co-founder and CEO of Tower Transit, leading its entry into the London and Singapore bus markets and winning the British Expertise International Company of the Year in 2017. Adam is passionate about re-imagining public transport and transforming cities and explains in detail how we in the west can learn from what they are doing right in Hong Kong. Tune in on June 19 to hear this interview on Transit Unplugged.

We know--and this is preaching to the choir--that planning for transit is an essential part of a city or region's overall planning process, but often it doesn't work out that way. We our guest Faye DiMassimo, FAICP is going to change that in her city, but this is also part of a larger discussion about transit oriented development. After you listen to Faye's interview with Paul, maybe listen back to episodes from Marco D'Angelo from Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA), Frank White, III from KCATA, Tom Gerend from KC STREETCAR AUTHORITY, or David Holt that talk about how TOD works their cities. Read on for this and a sneak peak for what's coming up next week with repeat guest Dave Reage.

Community. Connections. People. Economic development. Cooperation. Five things that set public transit apart from any other industry in the world. This week we have an interview--with a coda at the end you need to listen to--that pulls all of this together. Paul talked with Faye DiMassimo, FAICP about her city (Savannah), her transit system (Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT)), connecting with other transit CEOs through the American Public Transportation Association, and finally her new postion with the City of Savannah. Each step pulls all five of the traits above into the spotlight. Go have a listen, maybe sipping iced tea as one would in Savannah. https://lnkd.in/ggmBv_kv Next week we have repeat guest Dave Reage taking Paul on a tour of the Halifax, NS transit system by land and sea!
