User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041030 Firefox/1.0RC1 (Debian package 0.99+1.0RC1-2) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041030 Firefox/1.0RC1 (Debian package 0.99+1.0RC1-2) Would be nice if Thunderbird started parallel connections to all pop3 servers on pressing of "Get mail" button (like Evolution). Good for people who are disconnected most of the time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make many POP3 accounts. 2. Press Get Mail Actual Results: Sequential delay may cause very slow receiving of mail esp. in case of lossy connection with SSL. Expected Results: Do it in parallel so that receiving mail from many servers would as fast as from just a single server.

I believe we do that, unless you're filtering the different servers into the same inbox, in which case we serialize the get new mails so that we won't have contention over the local store.

Yes, I use Global Inbox :-(. Is it possible to connect and download mails first and to postpone locking store to the moment of insertion downloaded content?

no, it's not, with our current mailbox store format.
