This page with multiple animated GIFs on it is very chunky and in one instance crashed Nightly: http://likemoi.telequebec.tv/fankit

Here's my crash report: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/a572c6f9-4d05-4223-8b20-0cfc00191210

In the case where it crashed I had already visited the page once and then pressed the back button to return to it. I can't reproduce it though.

Hi,

Thanks for the details. I was able to reproduce the bug on Windows 10 on the following versions:

Release 71.0 (64-bit), and Nightly 73.0a1 (2019-12-16) (64-bit)

I've chosen a component. If you consider that there's another component that's more proper for this case you may change it.

Best regards, Clara.

Component: Untriaged → ImageLib
Product: Firefox → Core
Version: 73 Branch → Trunk

What kind of hardware are you on? The page seems smooth on my machine. Maybe I'm not looking for the right thing?

The crash doesn't seem related to anything with animated images. It crashes on a non-main thread and the stack doesn't look like it's one of the imgdecoder threads, so doesn't look like a thread that does anything with images.

Early 2015 MacBookPro running macOS 10.14.6

I haven't been able to reproduce the crash but it's a janky page if Firefox is having to share system resources (if I close Slack, Photoshop, Terminal, Code, Spotify, etc. it gets smoother).
