Steps to reproduce:

This is a feature request for mid to long term consideration. Ren Ng wrote a thesis some time ago regarding what he termed "4D" images, he's turned the concept into the Lytro camera (Lytro.com). It stores image information in a manner that allows the focal length to be adjusted after the photograph has been taken. I think it would be desirable and prudent to begin reaching out to Lytro to try to develop a web format of the lytro images which would allow users/code to control or manipulate them within the browser.

The potential web applications are numerous and distinct from video/flash, from sites you scroll through on the Z plane to potential uses for CAPTCHA.
