Square Enix joins Steam, starts with The Last Remnant

Japanese RPG powerhouse Square Enix will be joining the ever-growing ranks of …

Though it may be better known for the plethora of console and handheld RPGs it both develops and publishes, Square Enix has announced that it will start releasing PC titles via Valve's online distribution service Steam. Kicking things off will be the multiplatform action RPG The Last Remnant, which will be available on the service starting April 9.

No pricing details have been revealed at this point, nor have any games we can expect in the future. Square has taken a stop back from PC development in recent years, so the library of PC titles that the company has to offer isn't particularly large. However, it seems likely that Squeenix will be releasing some of its online titles, like Final Fantasy XI or Concerto Gate. Classic games like Final Fantasy VII and VIII, which saw release on the PC, are also a possibility.

Though it may not be a major player in the PC space, it's still great to see Steam continue to expand with the inclusion of a major Japanese developer. Hopefully this move will mean that some of Square's Japan-only online titles will now make their way to our shores.
