I think we can update the expression “you don’t want to know how the sausage gets made” to “you don’t want to see the reverse perspective of 3D animation.”
I know that’s kind of the go-to thing to show that a vampire character is “one of the good ones” or whatever but it actually seems a little bit more fucked up for a vampire to steal blood from a blood bank than for a vampire to attack people for blood, at least as long as it’s not the kind of vampire where a bite is instantly lethal like it never stops bleeding.
People can recover from losing some blood but blood bank blood is constantly in short supply and is reserved for people who imminently need blood transfusion of a specific blood type or else they die.
I also hate the “I can just substitute human blood with animal blood” like the whole idea of vampirism sort of hinges on the fact the only thing you can feed off of are humans.

Once you start having vampires subsist on animals, well, like, so do humans. In fact the average human probably eats more animals per year than most of the animal-blood-drinking vampires I’ve seen depicted.

“Ethical vampires should feed on criminals.” So it is ethical for a person to get death penalty without trial and/or to be literally consumed by other citizens as punishment for a crime? That’s the prison-industrial complex.
Ok so I have thought about this extensively. I have come up with a solution to the ethical vampire dilemma that covers pretty much all the bases.

Advertise a revitalizing blood detox facial. Spas are always doing these kinds of wacky treatments. It’s gimmicky and attention grabbing enough to draw in the upper class. Vampire gets daily blood, and the “victims” pay large amounts of money to give it to them. Spa is highly praised for its luxurious and unique services and draws in more customers

scenario 1: what’s clearly an official Superman post pops up on some rando journalist’s twitter and is noticed before he can delete it. leads to controversy when people conclude that Superman has hired this Clark Kent person to do his social media. Clark now has to deal w the fact that everyone thinks he’s Superman’s social media manager. employers at the Daily Planet very confused as to why he didn’t tell them about his side gig
scenario 2: world wakes up to Superman tweeting about how he hates the police
actually subtler but possibly funnier scenario:
Clark wouldn’t actually be absent-minded enough to tweet on the wrong account but one evening sleepily goes through and likes a bunch of tweets and the next morning wakes up to everyone screenshotting Superman’s liked tweets like HUH? HUH???
it’s a mix of:
political stuff Superman would NOT normally say
tweets from Clark’s daily planet co-workers who are now baffled as to why Superman was reading their tweets
perhaps most confounding, random bullshit Clark likes.
i think if supes liked a cool tweet about police and got drafted into the culture wars clark kent would have fun with it
silliest thing about my body is that I regularly experience precordial catch syndrome, which is basically the medical term for an extremely painful “twinge” in your chest cartilage that’s not medically significant & which we can’t really explain.
anyway, mine falls in the extreme in that the “twinges” can last several minutes and they range anywhere from “agh, minor inconvenience, I just need to sit still for a moment” to “this is the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my entire life, the ethical thing to do now would be to shoot me.”
the problem is, when it’s the latter, I literally look deranged. the “catch” comes on so fast, mid-breath, I gasp in sudden agony, clutch my chest, and seethe in agony as I struggle for as much oxygen allowed in the shallowest breaths possible. sometimes it’s so bad I end up on my knees or even lying on the floor, basically writhing in pain, clenching my teeth like I’m turning into a werewolf or something. and of course people are terrified. they’re asking what’s wrong, but I can’t talk. They’re asking if they should call 911, and I’m just shaking my head and holding up a “just a minute” finger and also groaning in anguish,
and then the silliest part of all is that the minute it ends, there’s no residual pain. not even the ghost of it. it’s gone as suddenly as it came and I catch my breath and I say, “WELL! Anyway,” and I immediately try to get back to the conversation but nobody’s ever quite receptive to that for SOME reason
