Taylor Byas, from I Done Clicked My Heels Three Times: Poems; “The Therapist Asks Me, “What Are You Afraid Of?””

[Text ID: “The remembering hurt / more than the living because shame dials / in. You hearing me? I was naive enough / to think I could control a life. Even mine.”]

pre-AIDS american lgbt history is so interesting to me because you’ll have old gays be talking about “oh san francisco in the 70s was like heaven on earth. you could walk into any bathroom in any bar and do a line of coke and get your dick sucked. and we were all wearing bell bottom jeans.” but then on the other hand the cops could/would just bust in and start beating people. you could go to jail for life in the state of idaho if you were found guilty of sodomy. in other states it could be 15 years. even in places where sodomy specifically wasn’t punishable, homosexuality was, & society & the church & your family wouldn’t let you get away with it. like we had disco music and harvey milk and the pride flag was invented and all of that terrific stuff but we were also very much still dying in the streets and the bars and the hospitals and our own homes. older gays will talk about the sheer amount of constant terror they felt simply because they were alive & wouldn’t conform. going to the club was an act of bravery, but by god, they went anyway. so much of our history is about the indomitable homosexual spirit

2024 has been a medium-average year so far. i say this not as a complaint, but to draw attention to the fact it certainly has not been as bad as it could have. yet

ronan showed gansey an ugly little turkey clock w the wattle as the pendulum and gansey said “mon dieu!” . it just does not get gansier than that

do u guys rmbr when gansey was upset and he kicked off his shoe and as it flew across monmouth he muttered “yeehaw” … another classic case of gansey ganseying gansily
