thanks for the kind words, anon. i agree that IE needs to happen more. i really, really hope we can put out an end of year ep like we have the last few years, but we’ll see. i will begrudgingly pass along your compliments to Ryan and Spencer.

Ooomph that would break my heart. Before coming to BuzzFeed, I managed boarding and grooming kennels (while working with dog show people) for 8 years, and the times I’ve lost dogs (and cats) I’ve loved is innumerable. Each time broke my heart, and the hardest was when I had to put my best friend (and former shelter dog) Bo down.

I can’t watch those ads, to be honest. I donate to shelters when I can, and I wholeheartedly support adopting from animal shelters. 99% of the people breeding dogs today should NOT be breeding. I would never buy a pure-bred dog, even though I love them and have worked with them. I support responsible dog breeders who breed for the betterment of the line(which is seriously 1% of the number of breeders).

Any time someone talks about getting a dog, I recommend visiting shelters in the area or, if they want a specific breed, reaching out to that breed’s local rescue organization.

Never buy a pet from a pet store. Don’t support puppy mills. Adopt from a shelter and you might just find the best friend you’ve ever met, like my boy Bo, who I don’t go a day without thinking about. I miss him every moment.

i think tumblr is a wonderful platform and is great at facilitating much needed discussions about a lot of social issues. the ability to manage one’s identity on the internet is a really important thing and is close to my heart, given my senior thesis, and i think tumblr is fascinating in that way. i worry sometimes that it’s too insular of a community.
