Let's give a big round of applause to Kristen Farnham for securing a spot in the top 10 Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) class of June 2023! 👏 Kristen gave us a glimpse into her PGDA journey: "After not studying for 10 years, I made a decision to re-embark on the CA (SA) journey that I did not complete in my younger years. Knowing what I know now, I do feel regret for not qualifying when I had the chance. I could only study online and in my own time, and CA Connect and Milpark provided exactly what I needed. I started with bridging FWL (Full workload) and continued to PDGA FWL while working a high-pressure corporate full-time job. I knew I had to make huge sacrifices in terms of my personal life. I was prepared for this, but when it actually came to saying no, it took my all. Fatigue is real, life is real, and sacrifice is real. Not all goes according to plan; you have to accept that you are human. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Take advantage of your support structure. You are not alone in this journey. When you pass a test or exam, celebrate each win. You have to reward yourself—you deserve it. I couldn’t be prouder of myself for achieving the Top 10. Shout-out to Tafadzwa Thomas Muzangaza for achieving top 10 status within the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) class of June 2023! Tafadzwa shared some of his journey to PGDA with us: "Attempting PGDA for the first time seemed like an impossible task and I was extremely nervous. I had to learn how to balance working, being a first-time dad and studying full-time. However, having attempted and passed the bridging course on my first attempt I felt I had the right foundation to pass PGDA. I took all the lessons that I had learnt during my bridging course and all the good habits that helped me pass bridging and applied them on my PGDA journey. I wanted to give my all so that when the PGDA journey was over I would not have any regrets. I also knew that the PGDA journey was tough, and I did not want to go through it more than once. Looking back through my journey I always told myself not to get too high with the highs of PGDA and not to get too low with the lows of PDGA I always tried to stay even keel. Every day I kept telling myself: "KEEP WORKING; KEEP GRINDING; KEEP BUILDING GOOD HABITS; AND GOOD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!" My desire to be better than I was yesterday drove me. I always asked myself the following questions daily: *Which topics or concepts am I struggling with? *What can I do to get better or improve? The art of discipline, sacrifice and being consistent were three of the most important lessons I learnt on my PGDA. I remember receiving my results and I was incredibly happy to have passed with a Distinction and achieving Top 10 was the cherry on top. I also want to thank God as I would not be here without him, and to my family and friends, thank you for your understanding and support through the PGDA journey. I was also fortunate to complete my PGDA at an institution such as Milpark, whose teaching and support is second to none. Congratulations to Kieren Brown on completing the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) with distinction and taking the top spot for the class of June 2023! Kieren shared some of his journey to PGDA with us: “I received my undergraduate degree way back in 2014, making the decision to study again quite terrifying. Although I had been working in the world of auditing since then, I had given up on the idea of becoming a Chartered Accountant. I was filled with doubt about whether I had left it too late. I soon realised that my fears were unfounded. Completing the Bridging Course in 2023 not only filled in the gaps in my knowledge but also gave me the confidence I needed to give my best in PGDA. It was a tough, but extremely rewarding year, and I am so grateful to both my family and the team at Milpark for always being in my corner. I think what makes PGDA so challenging is the sheer volume of content that you are required to get through to have a realistic chance of success. What sets the Milpark programme apart from other institutions is the structure. At every stage, there is a clear roadmap to follow. Constant daily progress is made, and bit by bit your knowledge and understanding of the subject matter is built. I had many periods of self-doubt throughout the year but always relied on routine and consistency to get through the difficult times. My belief is that we all have the ability to be great. We just have to alter our mindsets by choosing to improve, change and adapt in order to become who we are truly meant to be.
