Lviv, June 2024 – UNIDO has successfully conducted the first test fitting of a 3D-printed prosthetic for amputees in Lviv, Ukraine, marking a significant milestone in its project “Emergency assistance for 3D-printed prosthetics and job creation in Ukraine”. The project aims to revolutionize prosthetic manufacturing in conflict-affected Ukraine using cutting-edge 3D printing technology.

The acquisition of advanced 3D printers, laser scanners, and essential equipment is integral to the project, enabling the production of lower limb prosthetics. A crucial part of this effort is a two-month training program for eight local companies, which will enable them to create high-quality prosthetics on-site. As part of this training, 32 amputees will receive 3D-printed prosthetics, significantly improving their mobility, job opportunities, and quality of life.

This initiative aims to create sustainable job opportunities for amputees, whether through self-employment or wage-employment, allowing individuals to regain independence and contribute to the country's economic growth and stability. This approach not only enhances mobility and quality of life for the beneficiaries but also fosters a dynamic and inclusive workforce, marking a significant stride towards long-term socio-economic development in Ukraine.
