Reddit Meetup Day - Saturday, June 15th. Sacramento, CA. Reddit Meetup Day - Saturday, June 15th. Sacramento, CA.
Meetup Announcement

This event is cancelled. We only had three people sign up so it wasn't worth taking up a prime spot at McClatchy Park and using Reddit's funds for such a small amount of people.

Thanks to those who signed up. We'll try again next year.

I have slightly modified the Google sheet signup. For those who are planning to attend, if you could please sign the sheet no later than Friday morning and state how many people will be attending that would be great. This will let me know how much food to buy the night before the meetup.

If you want to bring a shareable item to the meetup please list it on the sheet, but please know that bringing something is not required. There will be food provided. This would just be for items not already provided. If you do decide to bring something, don't worry about how much to bring and just bring whatever you are comfortable with.

I mentioned in the original post below that I had submitted a request for funding from Reddit and that request was approved! This meetup is now going to be powered by Reddit Community Funds! Below is what will be provided at the meetup:

  • Burgers (both real beef and Beyond burgers)

  • Hot Dogs

  • Chips

  • Cookies

  • Cake (I'm ordering a full sheet cake for the event)

  • Soda

  • Water

Buns, condiments, paper plates, napkins, plastic cutlery and cups will be provided as well.

Even though the above items will be provided, if anyone would like to bring anything else, we can still do a potluck as well. I have created a Google sheet where you can sign up for something to bring if you wish. I personally will be bringing some other types of beverages to the meetup.

I'll post more updates as we get closer to the meetup. Feel free to comment below or send me a DM if you need more information.

For those of you who have been on Reddit for a while, you may remember that Reddit used to have a Global Meetup Day every year in June. They stopped doing this once the pandemic hit but it is now back for the first time since 2019. The official Reddit post about it is here. This year, they are making it Global Meetup Week and communities can celebrate any day within the week. I was able to reserve the gazebo area at McClatchy Park on June 15th, so we'll have shade the entire time.

If you search "global meetup" in r/Sacramento, you'll see threads organizing Global Meetup Day events going back over 10 years. This sub has always done something for that day. Here is my recap post from the last such event in 2019 and here is the recap post of the 2016 event. Those are the only recap posts I can find with pictures.

We had a potluck at the last 2019 event and it was wildly successful. We'll probably do the same thing here, but there will be more info on that later. If you look at the official Reddit announcement linked above, you'll see that Reddit is advertising a Community Funds program. I have submitted a request for Reddit funding to provide food and drinks (burgers, hot dogs, chips, water, soda, etc.). I'm still waiting to see if that gets approved or not before determining what kind of potluck may be necessary.

Anyway, here are the details of the event:

  • Date: Saturday, June 15th

  • Time: 12:00 - ???

  • Location: McClatchy Park (the gazebo is by the tennis courts near the corner of 33rd and Montgomery)

This post will remain a sticky for the next month and any updates to the event will be posted here. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me or ask in the comments.

Finally, for you trolls who feel the need to make shitty, sarcastic comments about the meetup, don't waste your time. Your comment will be deleted and don't be surprised if you find yourself banned.

Meetup Announcement

It's GRMD but in park meet-up form!

Reddit Meet Up Week is about subreddits taking the time between June 8th and 15th to say hello in person!

On Saturday the 15th of June, let's all get together and meet at Regents Park for some laid-back food, drinks and games.

The idea is that it's BYO drinks and snacks.

If you have any games, frisbees or balls then bring them along!

We will chill in the sun (hopefully) then once it gets dark we head on our merry ways to Camden.

I will be getting there around 2:30 so don't worry about being the first one there.

We found a great place in the park through our previous park meet-ups.

2024-06-15 (Sat) Hong Kong GRMD 2024-06-15 (Sat) Hong Kong GRMD
Meetup Announcement

Wow. It’s been 5 years since the last GRMD. Every year we try to get as many people in the r/hongkong community to show up and meet each other in person. This year Reddit admin changed things a bit and turn it into GRMW to give some flexibility. We decided on June 15th (Saturday).

I’d toyed with the idea of just doing a big r/hongkong meetup like previous years even without any Reddit endorsement like the Xmas party of 2017 and 2018, but venue prices have gone way up since pre-COVID. So we’d managed to arrange something to keep prices as affordable as possible.

Time: 19:00 -00:00

This time we will host at DMZ, a gaming venue run by u/kwuhkc and u/pyrosas. We will have video games, board games, and karaoke available. If anyone have games they want to play, feel free to bring them along.

Map Link

Unit A1, 7/F, Chuan Yuan Factory Building, 342-344 Kwun Tong Rd, Ngau Tau Kok

From Ngau Tau Kok MTR station, exit B5. Cross Lai yYp Street following Kwun Tong Road until you reach Yan Yip Street. Follow the Yan Yip Street to the first building entrance to the right, this will be Chuan Yuan Factory Building. Take any elevator to the 7th floor, and you have arrived!

Ranging from Card Against Humanity to Hero Quest, 3 TV setups available for karaoke, Nintendo switch and steam deck hookups, bring your consoles people! Jackbox is available as well.

While the games are fun and all, the important part of GRMD is for people to come out and meet each other and make new friends.

The venue will have a lot of space for people to fan out and hang out, so regardless of if you are new to the scene or a long time veteran/lurker, come on by and make some buddies!

Buffet style, but not unlimited. If we run out of food and there are still hungry people we can call for take out.

There will be non alcoholic drinks available.

Alcoholic drinks will be BYOB, please bring to share. (Also, I like stouts.)

Group photo:

I plan on having the group photo at around 8:30 or so. I will also be leaving my old cameras around the venue so feel free to pick them up and shoot away. I'd appreciate it if other people take some candid pictures of the event.

HK$300 per person flat fee if you prepay by the deadline (June 9th 23:59), HK$350 after the deadline or at the door. This will cover drinks and food.

Why prepay?

This is necessary due to logistic and budget reasons, and more importantly we need to know how much food to order from the catering company (the amount of money we collect by the deadline will determine what and how much we order). Please help us out by pre-paying ASAP!

How to pay:

Please do a FPS/PayMe transfer to 96332968 (WONG H** S** S**** ) $300 (for each person). Send a WhatsApp to +852-96332968 with following info:

  • Your name (and/or whatever alias you wish to identify yourself by)

  • The number of people coming

  • Screenshot of the receipt

Once I confirmed received payment we will put you into the Super Secret Elite WhatsApp group for cool Redditors. Again, past the 6/9 deadline the cost goes up to $350.

And before anyone ask I will not be doing any tiered pricing. Please don't ask if you can just come and play and not eat and pay less money, or if you are going to be late, or if you are going to leave early. It just make things more complicated for us and math is hard. Also, no exception for anyone on paying past the deadline.

If for some reason you do not have FPS/Payme, PM me and we will see if we can arrange something. I will try to do a pub crawl the weekend before and you can try to meet me and pay me in person.

There’s still time to get $$$ for your meetup! ADMIN There’s still time to get $$$ for your meetup!

TL;DR -- Reddit Meetup Week is the new Global Reddit Meetup Day (GRMD). Subreddits can apply for $ from Reddit from now until May 10th to host a cool event with their communities in June!

Hey hey hey – There’s still time to apply for $$$ from Reddit to host an awesome meetup for your subreddit during Reddit Meetup Week this June!

Through the years, we’ve seen communities use Community Funds to host cool meetups – r/chicagofood went out for dinner together, r/NBA hosted a meetup during All Star Weekend, and r/brisbane took over an art gallery and arranged a meetup at their own art exhibition.

What would your community be excited to do if everyone got together IRL? Maybe you attend a sports or music event, make art, or share a meal together. You could visit a museum, have a ping pong tournament, or go on a photo walk. Let’s make joining together IRL a reality for you and your subreddit!

The deadline to apply for event funding has been extended to May 10th, 2024.

Whether you’re applying for Community Funds or organizing an event on your own, we’d love to hear what you’re planning – let us know in the comments below!

Introducing…Reddit Meetup Week; June 8-15, 2024! ADMIN Introducing…Reddit Meetup Week; June 8-15, 2024!

TL;DR – Global Reddit Meetup Day is now Reddit Meetup Week and it’s happening June 8-15, 2024. Want to host an event for your community? Apply to receive support through r/CommunityFunds or host a DIY event. Join r/RedditMeetupWeek to follow along.

* 90s infomercial voice *Do you LOVE Reddit? Are you TIRED of connecting only within the walls of your monitor, laptop, or mobile device? Is meeting up with other redditors something that brings you JOY?

Well, we have an announcement for you.

Introducing…Reddit Meetup Week – 8 days of global, community-led IRL Reddit meetups from June 8-15, 2024.

If you’ve been around the block, you may remember Global Reddit Meetup Day (GRMD) from way back in the before days (2019 and earlier). GRMD helped communities create meetups together and form connections across the world. Although there are a few changes to the tradition this year, all of the good parts still exist…and some of them are even good-er. A whole week! Community Funds support! The possibilities are endless, so let’s get this thing back on the calendar.

When it comes to hosting an event, think about what will resonate most with your community. That could be a local dinner party, neighborhood clean-up, game night, virtual happy hour, volunteering, group hike/bike, art gallery walkthrough, pool party 🏊 or pool party 🎱, and those are just off the top of my head. The true beauty of Reddit Meetup Week is folks working together to create something that’s perfect for your people – whatever that may be.

There are 2 different ways to make your Reddit Meetup Week dreams happen – apply to receive monetary support through r/CommunityFunds or host a DIY event for your community!

Community Funds Events

Our one-of-a-kind Community Funds program provides financial support for community-driven events that bring users together. We’ve seen communities come up with some creative and fun ideas including, r/chicagofood going out for dinner, r/NBA hosting a meetup during All Star Weekend, and r/brisbane celebrating their local community through an in-person art exhibition.

  • Communities can apply to receive Reddit funding and support to host their events!

  • Moderators based in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, New Zealand and Australia are eligible to apply.

  • Community Funds can be used to cover costs for venues, food & beverages, event insurance, tickets to go to an event (think sporting events, museums, or movies), and event supplies (like for trash cleanups, in-person or virtual knitting circles, or book clubs).

  • If it’s your first time hosting an IRL event or applying for Community Funds, we recommend starting simple and small. Set a goal to gather a small group of community members and keep your list of costs specific and short.

  • Have questions? Let us know in r/CommunityFunds!

  • Submit your application before May 1, 2024 May 3, 2024

to be considered for Reddit Meetup Week funding.

DIY Events

  • If you don’t qualify or aren’t selected to receive Community Funds, don’t worry. You’ve got this! There are so many easy, cost-effective ways to host your own meetup.

  • Consider collaborating with similar subreddits, networking with fellow mods, or polling your community to see what they’re most excited about.

Update: We've extended the application deadline to May 3rd!

Reddit Meetup Week June 8-15,2024

An update on Global Reddit Meetup Day 2021 ADMIN An update on Global Reddit Meetup Day 2021

Hey all,

As you all know, June is traditionally the time of year we plan and help facilitate Global Reddit Meetup Days on site, and help support the other meetups happening around the world. It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce once again - for 2021 - we will not be supporting a GRMD at this time due to COVID. We urge you all to stay safe in the meantime.

It is our hope that this tradition does continue on in the future, even though the last two years have hindered our fun. If you have any questions, I will check this thread over the next few weeks and happily answer them.

Houston 2019 Post-GrMD Thread - 280+ attendees! Houston 2019 Post-GrMD Thread - 280+ attendees!

Thank you everyone for coming out to Houston's Reddit Meetup Day 2019. In the end we had over 280 folks come out and I hope everyone had a great time.

Group shot of everyone

If you missed it, here's the photos from the meetup

I wanted to thank all the companies around Houston that helped us out. We got beer from Under the Radar, City Acre Brewing, Astral Brewing, Brash, 8th Wonder, Eureka Heights, Houston Cider Co, Holler, Buffalo Bayou, Real Ale, Southern Star, and Karbach. Under the Radar was also awesome and provided a jockey box and kept all the beer cold overnight. Pepperonis also gave us 20 pizzas. u/heliox got us 1800lbs of ice and we used it all!

Also a huge thanks to those who gave us raffle items. 5.11 Tactical gave us awesome bags of swag, Top Gun Range gave us range passes, CHL classes, and shooting, Tea and Victory gave us giftcards, and Under the Radar gave away a happy hour for 2. Eureka Heights gave us a basket of swag.

Thanks to everyone who helped us out so much. You can thank u/steoank for lining up all the beer, u/houstondad for picking up the beer and other logistical support, Bryan has done an awesome job on the grill the last few years, this year Noe came in and helped him out. Tim and u/houstondad donated the brisket. u/rechlin with the awesome punch. u/munx1er got us the koozies and cups. Neel/Zombie got us extra canopies and extra food. Lots of other folks helped us lug all the crap (tents, grills, etc) around that it takes to get everything planned (Marco, Mike, KD, pretty much everyone else involved did some logistical support). RJ was there taking awesome photos of everyone. And everyone else who helped pick up trash, organize stuff, and anything else.

Finally thanks to everyone who donated. There's no way we could put this thing on w/o all the donations you provided. We ended up with a small surplus this year so we're looking into forming a federal nonprofit so beer donations are tax deductible for breweries and others companies might send stuff our way.

If you have any suggestions for us next year let us know. We'll definitely be back in this thread next year as we plan everything.

Everyones new flair should be set. If you don't have it, send me a PM with what you want. Sorry if I missed you. I'll get it taken care of.

/r/FortLauderdale's Meetup @ Circle House Coffee

Hey all,

Here is a picture of our meetup group!

We had a great time. The venue, Circle House Coffee Company, had Beer from a few different local breweries. Pies from "Fireman Derek's (Wynnwood) and Donuts from Mojo Donuts (Pembroke Pines). The coffee and service was excellent.

We're definitely an eclectic group of people, and I'm happy we were able to get together and have a great time.

Hope to see you all at a monthly meetup, and definitely next year!
