About Nasuni

Bringing fluidity to legacy data infrastructure

The traditional data center is no longer the center of data. Data is growing, teams are more distributed, and threats are proliferating. The result? Rigid infrastructures can’t keep up, and the resulting friction has become an accepted cost of doing business.

We’re out to change that. We built Nasuni to remove the friction that keeps your data from fully serving you. That means helping your teams seamlessly collaborate from anywhere — and are able to ready your data for the monumental shift to AI.

Our mission

Before the cloud was even called the cloud — and people thought the only benefit was lowering storage costs — Nasuni Founder and CTO Andres Rodriguez recognized massive potential to bring new solutions to old problems.

Andres was excited by the idea of object storage in the cloud — it was infinitely scalable and much cheaper than legacy storage infrastructure.

The cloud can help users scale and use data — but high costs, interoperability issues, and hardware-bound NAS management has prevented companies from achieving those benefits.

The missing link was a global file system that worked much differently than traditional NAS. The previous obstacle to using object storage for files in use was it was slow to update. That’s where the big breakthrough came: instead of updating core files, Nasuni built a system where infinite snapshots of those files were created, instead of changing the core files themselves.

What we believe

It shouldn’t be exponentially harder to scale — especially as you accumulate mountains of unstructured data. Object storage uses metadata instead of file structure for retrieval, removing the constraints of file hierarchies for effortless scaling.

Object storage costs pennies on the dollar, but traditionally wasn’t used for file management because it could be slower to update and less immediately consistent. We figured out a way to change that using a system that takes a ‘snapshot’ of every change, resulting in a quicker, more cost effective file management system.

The world isn’t moving in the direction of ‘everyone sits in the same office.’ Global opportunities, remote work, and other trends mean that teams are more distributed than ever before.

Managing hardware in multiple locations, manually backing up files, and protecting files from breaches and disasters — these all require significant IT support. The Nasuni File Data Platform automatically backs up files, disaster recovery happens in seconds to minutes, and ransomware is quickly contained and neutralized at the edge.

An incremental approach is better than one that never happens. We’ve made it easy to move file management to Nasuni — as much or little as you want to start, and without disrupting end user access. Our award-winning support and high NPS scores attest to the quality of our support and migration services.

Founding principles

Since the company was founded in 2009, Nasuni has evolved and advanced. We’ve been called a gateway, a cloud NAS solution, a cloud file services platform. But that fundamental cloud-native innovation has not changed, and we’ve remained true to our founding beliefs that Nasuni should:

The result? Our little storage startup that began with a breakthrough idea is now servicing 10,000+ locations with 27 billion files under management. And we’re just getting started.

Nasuni currently supports more than 800 enterprise customers, including numerous Fortune 500 companies, in over 70 countries.
