“KNOWING OUR ROLE”

“KNOWING OUR ROLE”

The movie “Rudy” was an inspirational story of perseverance and overcoming adversity to achieve a dream. It also provided us with bit of spiritual wisdom that every Christian needs to live by. The line was spoken to Rudy after he approaches a priest and says, “I have done everything I possibly can. Can you help me?” To which the priest replies, “Son, in thirty-five years of religious study, I've come up with only two hard, incontrovertible facts; there is a God, and I'm not Him.”

This remind us that even though we have dreams and plans, God is still in control. He set on our path and blesses us with all we need to live an accomplished life. It is up to us to follow and listen to Him. Often, people try to do what they think is best or what they desire to do without considering God.

Praise be to God for loving us and giving us His word so that we may know what our role is. There are some who question what the purpose of life is. Solomon stated it plainly in Ecclesiastes 12:13-Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Our purpose, or our role in life is not to be God, but to glorify and obey Him.

Peter may have let this fact slip his mind in Matthew 16. After his confession of Jesus being the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus commended him for being told this by God. Maybe this affected Peter’s ego a little and made him feel like he had special insight. When Jesus began to tell the disciples about what was going to happen to Him in Jerusalem, Peter took Jesus aside to rebuke Him. Peter said to Jesus, “Never, Lord! This shall never happen to you!” (Matthew 16:22). Jesus quickly reminded Peter of his role, 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men” (Matthew 16:23).

Knowing our role makes our life much more livable. When we realize that we don’t have to control everything or be involved in everything, our life will be much easier. When we realize that we do not have the mind of God and make His decisions, we will be much happier. God has given each of us a role and given us the talents we need to carry out that role. Life is much simpler when we learn to stay in our own lane!
