Continuing to Build a World Class Legal and Compliance Team at Coinbase

Coinbase has committed itself to being the most trusted and compliant venue for anyone to interact with the cryptoeconomy. A world class legal and compliance team at Coinbase is a vital part of that commitment and we’re building that hire by hire. With that, we are delighted to announce exciting new additions to our Trust and Risk leadership at Coinbase: Isabelle Young, Molly Abraham, Ian Rooney and Kenn Hwang. This kind of top talent is exactly what we are looking for to help Coinbase navigate the challenges ahead.

Isabelle Young joins us as Director and Associate General Counsel, Litigation. Isabelle joins us from Google where she was Senior Litigation Counsel representing the company in some of its most complex and high-profile litigation, including nationwide class actions, antitrust cases, shareholder litigation, and regulatory matters. Before Google, Isabelle was in private practice at Simpson Thacher in Palo Alto, where she represented tech companies, and at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York, where she represented financial institutions.  

Molly Grovak Abraham has been hired as our Director and Associate General Counsel, Commercial, leading business development and coverage transactions for the Coinbase legal team. Molly joins us from Kitty Hawk, the flying car company, where she led the legal function as General Counsel and guided the company through its creation of a joint venture with Boeing. Before Kitty Hawk, Molly was in private practice at Wachtell Lipton, where she represented financial institutions in multi-billion dollar disputes.

Ian Rooney recently joined Coinbase as Head of Enterprise Compliance. Prior to joining Coinbase, Ian was a Managing Director and Head of Global Financial Crimes Infrastructure at Morgan Stanley, where he was responsible for the oversight of monitoring and screening controls, KYC systems, rules management, and risk assessment processes for GFC, as well as model risk control and data governance activities for the Firm's Legal & Compliance Division.   Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he worked as a litigator for almost seven years at the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell.  At Davis Polk, Ian represented numerous corporations in complex criminal, regulatory, and civil matters, including several international financial institutions in AML and sanctions-related investigations.  

Kenn Hwang joined as Director and Associate General Counsel leading legal work for Coinbase’s Ecosystems and Platform team. Kenn comes from Google, where he spent eight years as product counsel for Google Payments. Kenn’s responsibilities included financial services regulatory compliance and governance for numerous aspects of the Google Payments product area. Before Google, Kenn worked as Corporate Counsel at Visa Inc., supporting international payment service provider and other launches and integrations.
