Did you know? The original rainbow flag was created by Gilbert Baker—a close friend of Harvey Milk. Debuting at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade celebration on June 25, 1978, it originally had eight stripes, with hot pink on top, violet on the bottom, and a different shade of blue! It was redesigned based on feedback received into the iconic six stripe flag that we know today.
