I had the incredible opportunity to attend the first AI Hackathon for Transport hosted by the Department for Transport (DfT), Google Cloud and PA Consulting. As Team 7, we aimed to develop an innovative service framework to manage traffic congestion using AI and Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) to enhance road network performance. I am thrilled to share that our team won the "Most Illuminating" prize! 🎉🎉🎉 I want to give a special shoutout to my amazing team members: Dr. Fangce Guo, Dr. Tang Li, and Xuehao Zhai from Imperial College. Their expertise and dedication were crucial in developing our innovative solution. Additionally, I would like to thank @Greg Haigh from the DfT for his invaluable guidance and support throughout the event. I was truly inspired by the collaboration and creativity of my teammates, as well as the incredible innovations from other teams. Our framework focuses on: - Predicting anomalies in the traffic network - Simulating travellers‘ response to these anomalies - Providing tailored routing suggestions for various types of vehicles, including autonomous and electric vehicles The benefits of our approach include mitigating congestion, nudging activity schedules, and reducing carbon emissions. This impressive round includes investments from industry giants like SoftBank Group Corp. NVIDIA, and Microsoft Founded in 2017 by Alex Kendall, a Cambridge University PhD focusing on computer vision and robotics, Wayve is at the forefront of developing embodied AI systems. Unlike traditional AI that generates texts and images, Wayve's technology equips physical machines—like vehicles—with the intelligence to make real-time decisions independently. Despite the challenges facing the autonomous driving industry, including regulatory hurdles and high development costs, Wayve has made significant strides.
