A Jewish American Biden political appointee resigned from the Interior Department, writing “I can no longer in good conscience continue to represent this administration amidst President Biden’s disastrous, continued support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”
Technically speaking, it’s not a genocide. It’s mass murder with a bunch of other crimes thrown in. One has to have an ethnically distinct population and/or a nation state population to have a genocide. That said, while her positon is understandable, it’s too bad she doesn’t percieve what the Administration is actually doing: Containing a nuclear capable nation state with a rogue leader aligned with Russia’s supporting networks.
Showing your strength and your moral principles this way is impressive and noble. You have taken the right decision.
The last 20 years won’t be like the last 20 years, and the Democratic Party has failed to adapt to the new environment. Let’s hope they don’t have to evolve the hard way, and maybe with a few more election cycles enough of the old guard retires or resigns, and we can elect newer, more traditionally democratic candidates. There may be a few coup attempts, debt defaults, and other crises regarding forced deportation of 20 million immigrants but hope springs Eternal when the only substance is exuberant optimism.
The Israel-Gaza conflict, causing immense suffering for decades, is complex and painful. A Jewish American political appointee's resignation underscores the intense emotions and differing views within the community. Actions by both Israelis and Palestinians have fueled the cycle of violence. The term "genocide" used by the appointee shows strong disagreement with U.S. policy. This calls for renewed commitment to peace, prioritizing civilian safety over political goals. The international community, including the U.S., must adopt a balanced approach to address the rights of both sides. Only through genuine dialogue and a commitment to human rights can a sustainable resolution be achieved.
Her resignation happened to coincide with the Palestinian remembrance of the Nakba on May 15,1948, the official beginning the genocide. Coincidence or symbolic? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-44114385
Restores my faith in humankind. Thank you Lily Greenberg for your courage in speaking out.
This editorial may not be taken into account by the CIP International Prosecutor, nor can it be binding since it not only directly denounces an Administration, but also decisively involves a President, who does not have the power to discredit an International Organization in a provision. to act and carry out a Fair Trial as was done in Nuremberg, so in his statements, Mr. Joe Biden, once his term has ended, should appear before the International Court whether he likes it or not, since no one should have privileges in the direct participation in cases of Lesa Humanity and mainly getting involved in decisions with their own statements and that the world requests, to intervene, otherwise the chaos and the consequences are of unforeseeable consequences at a global level.
Adaptively speaking: in a time when leadership has been reduced to bullies, cowards and the lesser of evils, a person willing to show courage is rare. The problems we face in Gaza and around the world have not been effectively addressed by deliberation, litigation or education. As Dr. Cornel West presciently concluded Race Matters: unless we learn a language of empathy and compassion the fire next time will consume us all. The problem of the 21st Century is Conscience.
How many have stayed instead? It's only fair that people are brave enough and make their principles stand. However, if his stance would have been more inclined towards Hamas, I'm sure there would have been at least one resignation among his staff. So, I'm not sure why this hit the headlines and not the fact that all the others stayed. Oh, silly me, it's good for the press.

3wI’m not going to subscribe to the Post just to read this article but it would be nice when journalists investigate this type of issue if they would ask the individual what they think Israel’s response to the Hamas attack should have been and why they think the US has the power or authority to tell another country what to do. Yes, we provide aid to Israel but the Middle East is a very big complex problem not so easily fixed, as if it could be fixed at all. As always, her personal choice, wonder where she ends up working. Wonder what her thoughts were when Hamas was launching rockets on Israel over the years.
