I’m most impressed with how media houses built a paywall where everyone was expecting free news. 🗞💸💡 I spent an amazing weekend in NYC at the #INMA Global Innovation Media Awards with my friend Alban Mazrekaj, a leader in media. I had insightful conversations with industry leaders who've been facing market disruption for decades now. 🔍 As a news consumer, I expect customized, time-sensitive, and language-sensitive news in various formats. 🌐🗞️🎙️ We want it all, and we want it for free! The transformation towards personalized news has become the norm, but paying for it remains a challenge for many media houses. 🗞❗️ What did I learn from these leaders? 🤔 Winners in disruptive markets are visionary innovators who prioritize their people. 👥 👏 I was particularly impressed by Jan Stian Vold. His project won the highest award, “Best in Show,” at INMA's Global Media Awards. He said they won because they put people first and honed in on innovation, which increased their paying subscribers, as times got tough and money tightened. And it's been paying off! 🚀 It reminds me of Netflix: merging technology innovation with content innovation, and designing a people-first culture. It's their people over processes approach that allowed Netflix to be more creative, flexible, and successful.
